Physical Therapy After Humerus Fracture
A 28 year-old man wishes to know if a tendon transfer is the only option for a wrist drop after a humerus fracture.....?
It depends: Sounds like you might have a radial nerve injury after a humerus fracture which unfortunately can be relatively common. Is it a post op nerve palsy? or was no surgery done to fix the humerus. How long has it been? If its been >6 weeks, an EMG can be helpful to see if there is any re-inervation. Make sure you are doing at least passive range of motion to avoid stiffness. We can set up a consult.See 10 more doctor answers
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more
Mid shaft humerus fracture an plated in arm how much time bone will take to cure an when should physio therapy started. Angulation of plate also there?
Humeral plate: I'm not sure what you mean that there is angulation of the plate, there has to be a slight convexity to the plate to avoid valgus malreduction. Physical therapy should start around 6 weeks post-operatively.
Not usually!: Never heard of therapy for a broken humerus causing an earache... Check w/ your primary care doc or an ENT to investigate. If your fx. Was proximal (toward the shoulder) on the humerus your p.T. May be exercising your shoulder muscles and occ. Your trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles get'irritated'. This conceivably could cause pain near your same side ear; but not an earache. Good luck!
Too broad of a topic: I cannot answer this accurately. The humerus can be broken in three distinct areas, near the shoulder, the middle part of the bone, and near the elbow. Depending where the fracture is has huge impact on the options. There are non-operative and surgical options for fractures at all three locations but I cannot discuss in more detail without knowing more specifics about the fracture.
Humerus fracture: It depends on how far out u are from the surgery. Within the first 48 hours you should use ice then u can use heat if that makes it feel better. Creams can help with muscle pain.
Sir 25 yrs age mid shaft humerus fracture movement of plate from original position 10-15 degrees of angulation union there operated 1 mnth 7 days?
Malunion: This fracture heals in about 6 weeks. The bone remodels overtime. Some angulation is well tolerated in this bone because of excellent rom at the shoulder joint. You will have good acceptable results once the bone is healed.
Yes, If fully healed: Humerus fractures may take 3 + months to heal depending on their severity and location. But when the fracture is fully healed and the elbow and shoulder joints are moving well then you should be ready to start gym again. However, you need to start slowly and build up your strength with time.
Bone Healing Aids: A well balanced diet is best regardless of injury. While taking a calcium supplement will not speed healing as well as a multi vitamin its part of a balanced diet. If you are taking anti inflammatory medication you should discuss the possible effects on fracture healing with your doctor. If you smoke stop while your fracture is healing. Smoking is associated with delayed fracture healing.See 1 more doctor answer
Humerus fracture: Some variables include location of the fracture, degree of displacement (position of fragments relative to one another), host variables (illnesses that may affect healing, smoker), ? Additional injuries (leg injury that may require need for arm walk with crutches). While many fractures will heal without surgery, repair of frwcture may help with pain and more rapid return to function. Good luck!
I'm starting to move my arm after my humerus fracture fracture will a elbow support help me move my arm?
No: An elbow support will not protect the fracture You need a fracture brace that supports the humerus and let's the elbow move.
Recently operated 4 a humerus fracture & my arm was fractured in another 2 areas while inserting the rod. How long will my arm take 2 recover?
Hard to say: Without reviewing the xray, its hard to say if you sustained a further fracture while treating the humerus fracture it should heal over 6-8 weeks that would be a reasonable estimate based on the available info.
How long does humerus fracture takes to heal. Will the bone be same stronger as before. I have got implanted with titanium plate. When can I start my gym?
About 6 weeks: May be 8 weeks. Also is very important to you the physical therapy and rehabilitation finished, before to go yo the gym for heavy exercises.

Is it broken or fractured is a question I am often asked. The answer is basically that a broken or fractured bone is the same thing. A fracture means a break in the cortex or the strong layer of outer bone cells. In an adult the average time for that to heal varies greatly but is often considered to ...Read more
It is a fracture (bone break) of the upper arm bone. The humerus is the bone that connects to the shoulder (through part of the shoulder blade) at one end, the elbow (through the two bones of the forearm, the ulna and the radius) at the other. The humerus can be fractured ...Read more
