How can I help get rid of phlegm in my infant?

See below: In infants, due to the proportional size of their airways as compared to ours, mucous sounds a lot worse but is not necessarily bad. When kids cough, cry, scream, vomit up mucous, they are naturally protecting their lungs. Only if respiratory distress and high fevers are occurring with this should you be concerned and get the child seen. Otherwise, suction nose, sit child up and humidy the air. ...Read more

In bpd treatment, phlegm turns to be thin, does it mean it is getting better?

For the moment: Bpd in preemies (or ex-preemies, as we call them when they are older) is a chronic situation. New lung growth, along with decreased inflammation in existing lung, is what it takes to get better. There will be better days and worse days, so one can say that things are worse if the child has more phlegm, and that things are better on the days there is less or thinner phlegm. ...Read more

Yellow to green phlegm in a TB patient with 4 months Myrin Treatment. No AFB seen in the lab test of this phlegm. What may be it??

Sputum samples are: Notoriously inaccurate in diagnosing specific infections, especially TB. Cultures from sputum specimens have a similar problem & take weeks to get a result. Fluid on lungs after gb surgery. Has dementia and cannot walk around much or cough up phlegm. What is the treatment and outlook? Still in hospital.

Fluid around lungs: After gb surgery is not common. If the gallbladder was very infected it may be reactive fluid. Other causes, such as pneumonia, should be considered. If it is infection then appropriate antibiotics should be started. If there is a lot of fluid restricting breathing then a tube may be placed to remove the fluid. See your doctor: In an older infant or child these symptoms would fit the common cold. In the first 3 months, coughing is less common and a little more concerning.
