A stimulant: Phentermine is a stimulant that can decrease appetite. It works for most people with about 10-15 pounds over 3 months. It can make you jittery or keep you awake at night. Most bariatric docs consider it as first line regimen. Of course, ask your doctor about more details.

Why did my doctor prescribe phentermine to be taken with food? I thought you were supposed to take it on an empty stomach? Won't see him til next month

Phentermine & Food: Phentermine is typically taken before a meal to reduce hunger and the intake of food. Your doctor may have wanted you to eat a normal breakfast then have the drug work in your system for the rest of the day. There is no harm taking it with or without food.

A: A definite association between phenteramine alone and valvular heart disease has not been established, but it is possible. There are rare case reports of valvular heart disease developing in patients taking phenteramine alone. From analysis I would consider this possible but very unlikely. The well established risks with phenteramine relate to its amphetamine-like actions, which can raise blood pressure and have other adverse effects on the body. The effectiveness of this drug has been demonstrated. However, as you may have recognized from your own previous use, the weight lost while taking this drug tends to come back after you stop it. Short term (12 weeks or less) therapy with phenteramine as part of a medically structured weight loss program may be of benefit but the magnitude and sustainability of that benefit may not justify the risk.

How effective is taking phentermine 37.5 mg pills for weight loss?

How effective is taking phentermine 37.5 mg pills for weight loss?

Not very effective: Even though it is prescribed and taken by some, it is not that effective. It is supposed to suppress appetite and initially it does and one may loose 1to2 lbs in first month and the effect wears of and long term results are not very convincing and side effects and potential for addiction and tolerance in my view does not support its long term use serious weight loss is by proper diet and exercise.

10
How effectively does phentermine work?

Not by itself: Phentermine is very effective for weight loss for short term use when used in conjunction with diet and exercise. Appetite returns once the medication is discontinued so to avoid weight regain you must exercise most days and maintain a healthy portion controlled diet.

I want to prepare for life after phentermine. I have changed my diet (1000-2000 cal/day) & exercise 2-3 times a week. What else should I do?

Yes youcan do more: The best way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. Your current schedule of caloric intake and exercise are fairly good but you can do more. I would suggest you exercise daily if possible or at least 5 times a week (less than 3 times per week is not of much use). Set your calorie goal to be closer to 1500/day than 2, 000/day. Reduce fat in your diet and avoid red meats.

Can I take phentermine, chantix, and celexa (citalopram). I'm healthy and lowestdoseof each?

Can I take phentermine, chantix, and celexa (citalopram). I'm healthy and lowestdoseof each?

NO! STOP NOW!: Combining Phentermine and another sri called Fenfluramine led to the so-called fen-phen crisis in the 90's when 1, 000's developed pulmonary hypertension, a non-reversible, often fatal, debilitating condition. We discovered this because the fen-phen craze created a huge study population. There's no reason to think another sri (celexa) won't interact the same way. Wanna be the cel-phen guinea pig?

Can a combination of metformin, topamax, (topiramate) phentermine and wellbutrin help you lose weight?

Can a combination of metformin, topamax, (topiramate) phentermine and wellbutrin help you lose weight?

Possibly but: There are several drug interactions between these 4 medications, and Phentermine and wellbutrin (bupropion) could both increase anxiety significantly. Consult your prescriber and discuss this combination thoroughly with her/him.
