Hello my favorite doctors! Just wondering if the clairitin that doesn't have the decongestant in it keepsyou awake as well? I've heard this complaint.
Unlikely: Claritin (loratadine) is considered a non-sedating antihistamine. By package insert it is associated with 7% sedation. Higher doses and taking medication that slows the metabolism of loratadine such as erythromycin, cimetidine (Tagamet) or ketoconazole can cause sedation even with 1 tablet. Rarely, it is an upper, but this is unusual. ...Read more
I have a broken leg and ankle. What is the max 30mg codeine in a day? As 4 in 24hr isn't helping my pain. My doc is out of hours. Thanks.
Tylenol (acetaminophen) #3: Tylenol (acetaminophen) is the limiting factor that limits the amount of Codeine you can take. There is 300mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) in tylenol (acetaminophen) #3's. With a healthy liver, you can take 4g of tylenol (acetaminophen) daily and with liver disease, about 2g per day. Codeine, however, is extremely constipating and increasing the amount of Codeine could constipate you pretty badly. I would recommend elevating your ankle above your heart and icing. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Afrin (oxymetazoline): Use this nasal spray about one-half hour before landing, about time descent begins. Is not needed for take off. Use only at this time and once or twice after landing. Try to avoid use while on ground or repetitively so that you will not start to build up a rebound effect. Learn how to do the valsalva maneuver. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm breastfeeding & dr rxd sudafed & guifen w/ codeine. Haven't taken yet but baby is sick now so will medicine passed into milk help him feel better?
Careful: Be careful taking sudafed while breastfeeding. It can decrease your milk supply. Codeine might make you sleep more soundly and not wake to your crying baby, or fall asleep while breastfeeding, which can be very dangerous (dropping baby to floor or rolling on baby/suffocating him). Add water to the air (humidifier) and flush your nose with saline. Honey can help coughs (for those over 1 yr old). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Im 7 weeks pregnant.Dr put me on metoclopramide for bad sickness, leaflet says not rec for early preg? Also gave me codeine, leaflet says can't mix the 2?
Metoclopramide OK: Metoclopramide is commonly used for nausea in early pregnancy. Although we can never be absolutely certain a drug is safe, Metoclopramide is category b for pregnancy, and is probably as safe as anything you could take. Codeine often causes nausea. I wouldn't recommend it when you already have nausea. ...Read more

Depends: Post nasal drip is a feeling and not a clinical condition or a pathological entity. It is that abnormal feeling of mucus in the throat and it can be due to many different causes ranging from allergies, sinus infections and viruses to atypical reflux or a reaction to things that you eat and drink. I have cured more people of "postnasal drip" by having them stop drinking coffee tea and soda. ...Read more

Can I take two teaspoons of Phenergan (promethazine) DM syrup. I have bad asthma and it's been a rough few days. One teaspoon just doesn't give enough relief. ?
Migrane: Migraines are sometimes hard to treat, I know I get them. Maxalt can be taken if your headache is still there you can repeat in 2 hours. It tends to work better at the start of a headache. Phenergan (promethazine) is for nausea, you certainly can take it with either of the mentioned medications. Make sure you have nausea before taking it. Make sure you go to a dark, quiet room and try to sleep. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
