What is a treatment of petechiae caused by sjogren's syndrome and vasculitis? Does it go away without any treatment?
Petechiae: These are tiny bruises and will go away on their own. The more important question is whether the underlying disease is being adequately treated. Discuss this with your doctor. ...Read more

Can petechiae be caused by hard scrubbing of the skin with a skin brush? Because when i started scrubbing i noticed i started to get it the next days.
Not really likely: Petechiae is caused by broken capillaries in the skin. This is not really something that can be caused by scrubbing. It is also possible that what you have is not really petechiae and is maybe simple folliculitis. It is probably best to stop scrubbing and wash more gently. If this does not resolve then you should perhaps see you gp. ...Read more
17 Y/O girl. Recently been bruising a lot easier on arms and legs, I've been getting itchiness on arms and legs causing Petechiae, doctors? Causes?
Yes: If a person's skin is rubbed hard enough, some of the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin will break and appear as blood spots (petechiae). If a person is rubbing just one area of skin, and the petechiae appear just in that area, then the rubbing has caused the petechiae. If petechiae appear in non-rubbed areas, then another problem is causing them. ...Read more

Probably benign: Petechiae are a small (1-2mm) red or purple spot on the body, caused by a minor hemorrhage (broken capillary blood vessels). Petechiae on the breast and not elsewhere is most likely caused by tight fitting bras or clothing. If it is recurrent and has no apparent cause (such as tight bras...), then you should see your doctor for a platelet count check. ...Read more

Which diseases are carried by mice and cat fleas in UK which could cause petechiae in humans? (my 10 month old daughter and 3 year old son have a few)
Not many: Dog and cat fleas in the UK are generally not a source of transmission of serous diseases to humans. They can cause tape worm infestation which would have abdominal to be a sign of serious disease, one would expect the rash to change rapidly and kids wouldnt be feeling well in a short course. In any case, the kids need to be examined to be on the safe side. ...Read more

Could sleeping on my chest with my left arm underneath could cause petechiae to appear on that arm. only lasted a day. Shoul I be concern?
It is certainly: possible that prolonged compression from sleeping on your arm could cause this finding. It is unlikely you have a hematological disorder or that you are taking platelet inhibiting drugs but it wouldn't hurt to ask your health care provider to review your medications list and get a platelet count blood test just to be sure. ...Read more

Can tight clothing cause Petechiae ? I have several on my chest and a large patch where my underwire from bra hits. Platelets at 331
Petechiae?: hello ~ YES definitely. A primary sign of asphxyiation in death from strangulation, is petechiae at point of causation, being a ligature or rope or hands on the neck to cause the constriction. If you are talking about clothing, its likely to be in the groin, axilla, cuffs and any other point of constriction. Also note the constriction is severe, so wearing clothes this tight makes no sense.. ...Read more
I have dermatillomania and pick my cuticles on one hand. Have for years. Could this cause petechiae (formed over years) running up this same arm?
Could be sign of infection, traveling up your arm. Is it warmer than other arm? Thicker?
Fact that it's been happening gradually means its slow, not acute. Plus you take nsaid, which increases likelihood of bleeding issues (and advil=ibuprofen, so i hope you dont take both).
Things i'd talk to your doc about next:
top 2 clotting probs, thyroid, possibility of needing ssri for picking.

How does HIV/AIDS cause petechiae? Is it due to low platelet count or some other mechanism? I have normal platelets but worried HIV could be the cause
Here's what to do: Get yourself one of these modern tests for HIV that's sensitive after the first month. You're not going to have any peace otherwise. Then live and love safetly. HIV may cause thrombocytopenia but seldom petechiae until you're very sick. Little vessels can rupture from exercising, rough-housing, or popular practices involving negative intraoral pressure. What are some causes of petechiae on different parts of the body? (Been getting them for 3 years on boobs but today I got it on one leg)
I had a very faint rash on my left breast yesterday and checking on it tonight its now petechiae rash what could cause this im 24yrs old i havent been ill recently and not taking any medication?
Do not worry: An isolated petechial rash on the left breast most likely represents local irritation from your bra or clothing. Are you wearing any new bras? Do they feel tight? Have you taken up a new exercise program or jogging? If the petechial rash starts to involve other parts of your body or if you have any bruising you need to have a blood count done by your internist. Your platelet count could be low. ...Read more
Can sudden Hypernatremia (resulting in seizures, petechiae and trouble walking) cause permanent CNS problems? Even if sodium corrected within 2 hours?
Time Heals AllWounds: That's a difficult question to answer. If the sodium was real high and brought down too quick, that might be a problem. But the seizures and skin lesions sound like the problem was pretty serious, so it may take more than a minute to get all better. Probably need some rehab and close follow-up. If this was an infection, then it could take a while. If something else, depends on a lot of things. ...Read more
Causes for Petechiae with platelets at 331? Occasional petechia spots on chest and legs... Diagnosed but doctor doesn't know what it could be
Petechia normal CBC:
Occasionally no cause can be found, in these cases is Indicated to perform: a "platelets function assay" as well request a capillary function, but the patient are very symptomatic.
Petechia refers to one of the three descriptive types of bleeding into the skin differentiated by size, the other two being purpura and ecchymosis. Petechiae are by definition less than 3 mm.
The term is almost always used in the plural, since a single lesion is seldom noticed or significant.
The most common cause of petechiae is through physical trauma such as a hard bout of coughing, holding breath, vomiting or crying, which can result in facial petechiae, especially around the eyes. Petechiae in this instance are harmless and usually disappear within a few days. Petechiae may be a sign of thrombocytopenia (low plateletcounts) when platelet function is inhibited (e.g., as a side effect of medications or during certain infections), or in clotting factor deficiencies. They may also occur when excessive pressure is applied to tissue (e.g., when a tourniquet is applied to an extremity or with excessive coughing or vomiting).
If unsure, petechiae should always be quickly investigated. They can be interpreted as vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels, which requires immediate treatment to prevent permanent damage. Some malignancies can also cause petechiae to appear. Petechiae should be investigated by a doctor to rule out the more dangerous conditions.
The significance of petechiae in children depends on the clinical context in which they arise. Petechiae in children can occur with viral infections. In this instance, they do not necessarily signify a serious illness. However, they are a hallmark signal of some potentially serious illnesses, such as meningococcemia, leukemia, and certain causes of thrombocytopenia, of which meningococcemia can cause death within 48 hours of infection. Therefore, their presence should not be ignored.
Petechiae (in the face) may also be present in cases of asphyxiation. ...Read more
