You're OK: Oral sex is safe sex for HIV, with no proved transmissions by fellatio from mouth to penis, only rare ones penis to oral. You didn't need testing on account of this event and for sure not the multiple expensive ones you had. But the results from that combination of tests are conclusive. For sure you didn't catch HIV during that exposure and no further testing is needed. Best wishes and stay safe! ...Read more

Polymerase Chain Reaction (Definition)

Polymerase chain reaction is a method of finding a specific piece of dna and copying it over and over again until there is enough to study. The technique allows a scientist to detect very small amounts of dna in a swab sample then reproduce enough of it to study it. It is very sensisitive for detecting the presence of certain bacteria and is also used in doing other ...Read more

What is the definition or description of: pertussis in nasal swab (pcr test)?

What is the definition or description of: pertussis in nasal swab (pcr test)?

Pertussis was foun: It means that they found evidence that the bacteria that causes whooping cough was present in the nasal passages. This could mean you are a carrier of the disease (could infect others) or if you are having symptoms or repeated, serious cough, then you likely got infected by the pertussis bacteria and have whooping cough. ...Read more

What is the definition or description of: pertussis found on nasal swab (dfa)?

What is the definition or description of: pertussis found on nasal swab (dfa)?

Rapid screening test: Dfa--direct fluorescent antibody test--a rapid diagnostic test done in the lab that takes 1-2 days to screen for pertussis (whooping cough). While much faster than a culture, this test is not as reliable. A nasal swab is inserted gently into the nostrils toward the throat (posterior nasopharynx). Then fluorescently labeled antibodies are exposed to the sample looking for pertussis antigens/markers. ...Read more

Can i sex with partner but my partner is PCR test possativ, how to sex ?

Unclear question: What is partner positive for? In any case if you have any doubt do not engage in any sexual activity without a condom. Hpv some other stds may not prevented even with a condom. It would be prudent for both of you talk to your partner's doctor before engaging in sex. ...Read more

What exactly a polymerase chain reaction is or a "pcr test?

Nucleic acid testing: Pcr allows enormous expansion of a chosen, limited segment of dna and facilitate testing of nucelic acid abnormalties. Pcr by itself is not a test. The specificity of the test is detemined by the composition of the probes used to analyse the nucelic acids. ...Read more

By explaining what exactly a polymerase chain reaction is or a "pcr test?

DNA amplification: Poymerase chanin reaction/pcr is a process to amplify a specific stretch of dna. Pcr is a way to perform a number of tests by using specific probes. Pcr by itself is not a test, but one step in many tests. ...Read more

Were can I get HIV RNA PCR test?

Almost anywhere: Any doctor can order this, but if there is an std or HIV clinic near you that is a good place to go. Some commercial laboratories may do this without a doctor's order. Call and ask. Good luck and hope this is negative. ...Read more

What is sensitivity and spesifity of the HIV / aids PCR test?

What is sensitivity and spesifity of the HIV / aids PCR test?

High: Since the test is looking for the virus itself it is very specific. There should be no false positives of titers that are significantly above the minimum of detection (of course some human error is always possible). Similarly, since it amplifies any detected viral RNA a million-fold, it is also very sensitive. ...Read more

If the HIV dna/pcr test is used for early detection, is it more or less sensitive between the 3-6 month period?

What is the level of sensitivity of the HIV-1 RNA PCR test by Aptima? Is it accurate at 2 to 3 weeks post exposure?

Yes: Read the CDC updated recommendations on HIV testing. The rationale for this test being available is that HIV RNA is detectable in plasma before antibodies. A safe approach is to be tested after the eclipse period after potential exposure when no RNA nor antibodies to HIV can be detected. The RNA test is effective around 10 days after infection but seroconversion to antibodies may take 3 months. ...Read more

Is HIV antibodies test conclusive at 3 months after exposure?and is DNA PCR test conclusive after 45 days after exposure?

Is HIV antibodies test conclusive at 3 months after exposure?and is DNA PCR test conclusive after 45 days after exposure?

HIV Infection: Technically speaking PCR is conclusive at the time of infection. The moment HIV enters the human blood stream it explodes. Viral tires go into the multiple millions. So testing by PCR would easily catch this. The problem is..it is not intended to be used as a screening test due to the cost. So..the antibody test at 3 months is good..but 6 months out is needed to be conclusive in my opinion. ...Read more
