Prolonged healing: This delay can be due to many things. These wounds are in difficult to heal locations. It may be due to several issues. You need to return to the surgeon or ask for a referral to a wound center.

Barium enema after a perirectal abscess surgery, what do you recommend?

Barium enema after a perirectal abscess surgery, what do you recommend?

Enema is needed: Barium is probably not the contrast media I would choose. I would perform. I would choose a water soluble media. Just in case the cause of the abscess was a hole in the bowel. Better to have water soluble contrast rather than barium. As always best to talk to the doctors

What is the recovery time for surgery (with a seton) on an anorectal abscess & fistula?

Seton takes time: To cut through, may take 8 Wks or little more, is very good technique, less chance of recurrence, and flatus incontinence

How hard a recovery is it from peritonsillar throat abcess surgery?

Can be rough: Can take a couple of weeks to heal and be pretty sore until then. But I'm sure you felt a lot better from getting that abscess drained!

How long will it take for kidney abscess surgery?

How long will it take for kidney abscess surgery?

Surgery?: Most kidney abscesses can be treated by image guided intervention rather than surgery. When done under ultrasound or ct guidance the procedure itself can take 15-30 minutes.

Do abscesses go away on their own or is surgery required?

Do abscesses go away on their own or is surgery required?

Drainage: Abscesses do not generally go away on their own. The primary treatment of an abscess is drainage--evacuation of the pus. This can be done with surgery, a needle and syringe or the placement of a temporary drain with x-ray or ultrasound guidance.

I have a vulvar abscess I believe. It hurts when laying down, standing and sitting. I don't want surgery is there another way to make it go away?

I have a vulvar abscess I believe. It hurts when laying down, standing and sitting. I don't want surgery is there another way to make it go away?

That's the best way.: Abscess needs to be drained. It may not be a full fledged surgery and may be with small incision, the abscess will be successfully drained out. Then with antibiotics you will be OK...

What to do if I have a batholic abscess for 8 yrs. They do me a surgery but still its coming out and its so painfull?

See PCP: You probably mean Bartholin abscess!, if the abscess keeps coming back despite drainage, you may need a different surgical procedure called marsupialization. I advice to see your physician again.

Abscess: Abscesses need to be open to heal. May need to remove the cyst wall. Consider washing w/ antibacterial 'hibiclens' 1-2 x/ week to prevent bacteria build up. Wash 2x a day in summer, keep pores open. Change position every 30 min for 1-2 min. Pilonidal cyst needs more definitive surgery f/w/doc http://www. Mayoclinic. What should I expect in a pilonidal abscess surgery?

What should I expect in a pilonidal abscess surgery?

Depends: If there is an abscess, your surgeon may simply incise (cut into) and drain the area. Otherwise, your surgeon may try to excise or remove the sinus tract by taking out an ellipse of tissue. You may have an open wound if there is a lot of infection. Expect to be taking some pain medications afterwards, but to be feeling better overall.

Bartholin abscess help! Do I need surgery if returns?

Maybe: If the gland becomes infected again, then incision and drainage is appropriate.

Abscess on a very deep cut on my arm, I previously had surgery, help?

Abscess on a very deep cut on my arm, I previously had surgery, help?

Superfast healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation (red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected.

See doctor ASAP: There are several possibilities including recurrence of the abscess, slowly progressive infection of the underlying bone, some inflammation or scarring from prior inflammation pressing on a nerve root, etc. You need to be seen by a doctor and re-evaluated and suggest that this be done before whatever this is becomes much worse. Good luck.

Could discomfort after perianal abscess surgery remain one year?

Could discomfort after perianal abscess surgery remain one year?

Not usually: I suggest you see your surgeon, and discuss your discomfort. That's a bit long to still be uncomfortable, though that is a broad term. Call your surgeon and make an appointment. Good luck.

Are there any other ways to heal perianal abscess except surgery?

Dr. Tony Ho Dr. Ho
1 doctor agreed:

No: Abscesses require surgical drainage in order to give the maximum chance for recovery. Antibiotic treatment alone of an abscess, especially a larger one, often fails because antibiotics often can't penetrate into the abscess itself.

I am suffering buttock abscess since 2009, I had have surgery but I still not recover, suggest me what should I do?

Need to see surgeon: You may have most likely anal fistula, less likely pilonidal sinus, both need surgical intervention, see your surgeon to find the cause and treatment.
