How painful is mirena (levonorgestrel) coil removal? When will my periods return after having mirena (levonorgestrel) removed?

See below:: If the doctor can see the IUD string on exam, its usually not at all painful to have it removed. If the string is not visible, there is a little more discomfort because the doctor will have to reach up inside the uterus to grab the IUD or the strong. Most women start having their period within 4 weeks of having the IUD removed. Frequently there is a heavy period quite soon after removal. ...Read more

What exactly does implantation look like? Bled for only 4 days Periods are dif since mirena (levonorgestrel) removal. I'm so confused.

Implantation: Implantation bleeding is much more common on the internet than in real life. It occurs rarely and exclusively in someone who is pregnant. The only way to know if someone had implantation bleeding or just irregular menstrual bleeding is to wait and see if you are pregnant. If your test is positive then this was implantation bleeding. If it is negative then it is just irregular menstrual bleeding. ...Read more

I had the mirena (levonorgestrel) for 9 months and had it removed because of excessive spotting. Since removal on Feb 6th. I haven't had A period should I be concerned?

Pregnancy test?: Its been over 6 weeks without a period. If you have been having unprotected intercourse, its possible you are pregnant. If pregnancy isn't possible, I would still suggest an evaluation by an Ob/Gyn. Most normal women would start having regular periods by this point. Best wishes! ...Read more

What would cause a heavy period like flow after removal of Mirena IUD? Was under the understanding that it kept lining thin.

What would cause a heavy period like flow after removal of Mirena IUD? Was under the understanding that it kept lining thin.

Age 60 & heavy flow: If indeed you are 60 years of age. Removing the Mirena IUD was sorely needed. Moreover, heavy bleeding post Mirena at any age raises the question of abnormal endometrial proliferation. It would be a good idea for your GYN MD to take an endometrial sampling (biopsy) to rule out endometrial hyperplasia which can lead to endometrial/uterine cancer. ...Read more

Period 15 days late. Never is late. Now today I have an intermitent brown discharge. I am ttc for 11 months after Mirena (levonorgestrel) removal.

Can do preg. Test: If one is "never late" but is now "late", one can do a pregnancy test. It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. ...Read more

Just took out my Mirena (levonorgestrel), started the pill immediately after removal. Still no period finished pack friday. Could I be pregnant?

Mirena (levonorgestrel) removal: If you had no bleeding with the Mirena (levonorgestrel) it may take a few months to start bleeding again depending on the type of birth control you are now using. Not bleeding on birth control is not a problem. You can check and do a PT now. If you take your pills same time each day your risk for pregnancy is low. No birth control method is 100%. ...Read more

I had 2 positive pregnancy tests 2 weeks after my last period which was a few weeks after mirena (levonorgestrel) removal. Difficulty determining how far along I am.?

Need ultrasound: Given your history it is difficult to determine your gestational age. The only way to accurately determine it will be by ultrasound. However you are only four weeks out from having your Mirena (levonorgestrel) removed thus I would wait two weeks to have this done. The earliest you can date a pregnancy is 5-6 weeks gestation. If you develop severe abdominal pain obviously be seen sooner. ...Read more

Had my period July 1st to the 11th the day of my removal of iud mirena (levonorgestrel) had unprotected sex week of 12 to 17th now today is July 28 why I'm a bleeding?

Your period: If your last period started on July 1, this is day 27 of your cycle and your period is due. The removal of your IUD didn't necessarily change that although it can change it for some women. There is only a 20-25% chance of getting pregnant in any given cycle (fecundity) prior to age 30 and this drops as we age. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Sounds normal: It is normal to have some bleeding after an IUD removal and also normal to have some bleeding when transitioning from one method to another. It is also common to have some irregular bleeding on Depo. You were on the Mirena (levonorgestrel) when you had sex so pregnancy is not a concern in this case. Monitor the bleeding over the next few weeks and if it continues see your obgyn ...Read more

Hello, I had mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD removed 3 days ago. I am now spotting bright red blood. Is this spotting, period, or removal bleeding? We are TTC.

A little patience: You had your IUD removed 3 days ago. It make your body a few weeks to adjust. Track your cycle over the next few months and if they do not normalize then see an Obgyn. Take a prenatal vitamin now since you are trying to get pregnant ...Read more

Can u get pregnant right after mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD removal? I got it removed 4 days ago and now I am bleeding could it b my period coming that soon or?

Unlikely, but.....: You can get pregnant immediately after removal of an iud, depending where you are in your cycle. That being said, if you are only 4 days post removal, it is too early to check a pregnancy test. Additionally, your periods may be irregular just after removing the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud. I recommend you wait a week, then check a urine pregnancy test. Best of luck! ...Read more
