Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

Period came early, on second to last of my bc pills. Wanted to delay period by starting new pack tomorrow but since it already started what can I do?

Too late: It is too late for this cycle. But if you are trying for continuous therapy. You skip the fake pill and move on to the next pack. It may take 3-6 months for your cycles to stop.

Now not all womens cycles will stop and you may have to go back to having a cycle.

Your gyn should be able to guide you through this. It is not fda approved and is off label, but it works well most of the time. ...Read more

Sex after last period. Strted new BC pack. Cnt remember if I missed any pills. Used pull out method, mssd recent period. Stress? Or Pregnant?

Maybe not pregnant: If worried, just do a pregnancy test. A urine test done correctly gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have happened). If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and therefore lead to a repeat test. If a woman has her normal regular period, then she is not pregnant, and a test is not needed. ...Read more

Going on a trip on Wed, ended placebo birth control pills 8 days ago with min brown discharge. Will period come during new pack?

Difficult to tell: Birth control pills make women have lighter and shorter periods - sometimes no period at all. In this scenario your period should not come, after you started a new pack. Not knowing more details about the situation makes it difficult to gauge, what may happen. Neither can pregnancy be excluded - it may be an idea to take a pregnancy test, to at least have the peace of mind of not being pregnant. ...Read more

Forgot to take 5 days worth of pills & then doubled up to catch up. Had breakthrough bleeding & then finished pills. Period not here? Start New pack?

Do a pregnancy test: If you miss more than 24 hours of pills, then you are not "safe" from pregnancy. So you should do an OTC test first before you start the next pack. If you have been sexually active during that week, than you need to wait at least 10 days after sex to know that you are not pregnant. If that is the case, then start the next pack. You should use a backup method for that cycle. ...Read more

On Mononessa for BC, started on Sun 5\10 first day of last period. Missed 5\22 & 5\23. Period already 5\24?? New pack now or next. Sun?

Missed pills: Because OCP's are so low dose, missing pills leads to BTB quite often. Assuming that you continued your pills? If you did continue the pills, take one pill in order of the pill pack each day and start the new pill pack the day after the old pill pack is complete. If you stopped the pills and are currently bleeding, start the new pill pack now. You will need to use other protection for two weeks. ...Read more

If I miss 1 month of brthcontrol pills and I take them to regulate my period. Just got a new pack will it come late? I havnt gotten it yet 4 days late

Are you pregnant?: I'm not quite sure of the timing of events here. If you have missed one month of pills, you should start your new pack after the start of your next period. It will affect you just like starting the pill for the first time. Some people spot, some don't. If you are late for the period, perhaps you are pregnant, since you were off the pill. Check that before restarting the pill. ...Read more

I'm on Yasmin, I finished my last pill (before placebos) on Sat. Got period today (Wed) but want to stop period, can I start new pack of pills to stoP?

Generally yes...: I would want to know how old you are & if you have have any kidney probs before saying 100% yes. However, this should in general be safe & most OCPs can actually isbe taken for three months at a time with good safety in most women & then a break is recommended. Over time most woman's periods get lighter & some do not get them during the break. With Yasmin rec routine labs to check K periodically. ...Read more

I missed some of my active bc pills &my period came early. I am still bleeding days after my period. I started a new pack of pills. What is this?

Missed BC/bleeding: Missing those pills caused the hormonal balance to be disrupted, and that's why your cycle started early. No worries. It will correct itself after another cycle or two if you don't forget your pills! Always worth checking preg test just to make sure (no contraception is 100% perfect). Or think about other method that is more reliable (depo shot, IUD, etc) if you tend to forget your pills often. ...Read more

I missed three birth control pills, and took them in one day. I then stopped that pack and started a new pack, period now for 8 days, any info?

Breakthrough bleed: When you missed the 3 pills the lining of the womb has been released and is the cause of the bleeding also known as breakthrough bleeding. Eventually it will stop as long as you remember to take your new pack of pills everyday at the same time each day. By the way, run a pregnancy test to be sure that it is negative if you were sexually active in the previous month. ...Read more

Low risk: Very few side effects expected. Possibly some spotting but that should be it. In general, there's nothing wrong with continuing to take active pills and skipping over the placebo pills. Every three months or so you should let yourself menstruate by either stopping the active pills or taking the placebo pills. ...Read more

What happens during 7 day break from period? How soon does period start/finish? Does it finish directly on th day new pack of pills are taken?

Bleeding patterns: During the 7-day break, the female hormones fall. This causes a "withdrawal bleed." generally 1-2 days after the last pill you bleed. Wait no longer than 7 days, to begin a new pack no matter what."pill periods" are lighter/shorter and your period probably will be over in less than 7 days. You are always protected because pills stop ovulation. Safely skip periods by taking pills without a break. ...Read more
