Provera (medroxyprogesterone)? Does it help you to get pregnant? I'm 27 & have regular period, hormone imbalance and pcos. Been ttc 4 8mths. Is this the best action to go?
Not Provera (medroxyprogesterone): If you are having regular periods, meaning say every month between 26-32 days, Provera (medroxyprogesterone) will not help you at all (in fact taking it will likely make your regularity worse.) if you have regular cycles I also highly doubt that pcos is a correct diagnosis, since irregular periods are part of the diagnosis. ...Read more

Pregnancy test: If you miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. What you described does not sound like a menstrual bleed. Alternatively you could see your doctor for a blood test, which should be positive now if you are pregnant. ...Read more

I don't believe that the birth control were the cause of your current situation, but I do think they were "hiding" the underlying problem that you and your doctor were treating in the first place. I think you are correct that the problem then was "hormonal imbalance". The pill is effective at controlling symptoms, but does not correct this imbalance at its root cause.
It is true that fertility varies during the month. Your most fertile days, assuming you have a regular 28-day cycle, are approximately days 10 to 14. (this assumes that you ovulate on about day 14.) when you ovulate, the egg does not last very long; in contrast, sperm can hang around in the vagina for up to a week, which is why the days before the egg is released can lead to pregnancy.
Whether to get further hormonal evaluation at this time depends on several things, including your age, whether you are overweight, and whether your cycles are regular. If your body is at a healthy weight, and another hormonal imbalance is present, I recommend treatment with bioidentical hormone therapy, which even in low doses can enhance fertility. ...Read more
