Time to cure is dependent on eradication of the primary problem, the nature of the organism involved and the type of therapy given. See an OB/GYN: It is unlikely this is related to a pelvic abscess you had 4 yrs ago but nothing is impossible. Strongly suggest you go and be seen, examined and diagnosed by somebody face to face. ...Read more

I keep getting these painful abscesses around my vagina right before and after my period. I've been cleared of all stds?

These may be...?: If as described as recurring cyclically along with periods, one would consider if these are acne. Do you have similar conditions on face, neck, and trunk? How about your body hairs, thick, thin, or average? Also, such are not std-related. Probably unrelated: Although the infection (abscess) for which you were given the antibiotic can cause damage to other organ systems in your body. Antibiotic is to control severity of the infection, but will not cure it. Treating the abscess will require root canal or extraction. So call your Dentist, and also call your OBGyn. ...Read more

Possible vs. likely: There's no evidence that swimming while on a period, or swimming with a tampon has any risk at all. Quite the contrary. I suppose if you swam in clearly contaminated water you might take a risk; swimming in a pool is safe. ...Read more
