Perimenopause Spotting Instead Of Period
I am going through the perimenopause and have had spotting for 17 days since the end of my last period. Is this normal? How long can spotting last?
I'm currently on CD62. Usually my cycle is 60. I experienced small spotting last night, but no period as per normal. I'm very worried. Perimenopause?
Unlikely: Your cycles are abnormally long at 60 days and I think someone should look into that but you are very young for this to be perimenopause at 28. The perimenopause is usually the 5 years before and the 5 years after your last period (when you run out of eggs). Menopause before age 40 is considered premature and is abnormal. Check a pregnancy test and see a doctor to help explain the long cycles. ...Read more
I'm 41 yrs old & my periods for the past 2 months are very light spotting. This month is the same but with a large blood clot. Is this perimenopause?
Unlikely: The average age of menopause is 51, so 41 would be very early to go through menopause. Hormones can wax and wane in the 40's though, and it's possible you're just experiencing some hormonal swings. Definition of menopause is no period for a year. Your having then, just lighter. Cannot explain blood clot but could also relate to hormones. See a gynecologist to discuss and possible ultrasound. ...Read more
What are the symptoms of estrogen dominance/low progesterone? I am 44 possibly perimenopause. Spotting btw periods/clotty periods. Tsh & pap normal.
See below: In women struggling through peri-menopausal transition, cycles where you do not ovulate are common. This is similar to being stuck in the first half of your cycle where estrogen is the dominant hormone. This can be balanced by either taking birth control pills, or using Progesterone (provera (medroxyprogesterone) for example) during the latter half of each cycle. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more

Time 2 get a checkup: There are a lot of reasons for short periods and it's worth getting it checked out. It could be reflective of thyroid disorders, non-hormonal gynecologic problems such as fibroids, and others. Your OB/GYN should be able to help you sort it out. How long can spotting last during perimenopause and is it normal? I have had 3 colposcapies in the last 10 years and they have all been normal.
Spotting @ 55: Perimenopause can cause lightened or absent periods with spotting. However, endometrial cancer also presents in the same way. Colposcopies are not the prime way to assess the endometrium as it looks at the endocervical canal and cervix itself and not the endometrium. An endometrial biopsy will tell you and your MD much more about why you are spotting if this is worrisome. ...Read more

I 'm 44... in perimenopause and had a half day of spotting 2 months ago. Been having sporadic pain in right ovarian area. Concerned about ovarian cyst?
Ovarian cyst?: At 44, there will be both menstrual irregularities, and intermittent spotting or bleeding, since although you are probably not in menopause, your ovaries need more stimulation to produce an egg, which raises the estrogen, making the lining of the womb thicker, causing spotting. See your gyn, and ask about low dose oral contraceptives to lower the estrogen and cyst formation. ...Read more

More info: It's possible but unlikely you're in the perimenopause. Unless early menopause runs in your family, it's likely hormonal or due to lesion in uterus. It's unlikely, but at 43 if you have more than 1 period a month biopsy may be necessary. ...Read more
