Perimenopausal Symptoms And Treatment
Please advise on treatment for perimenopause particularly symptoms related to extreme gas and bloating.
Consider other cause: When you state "peri-menopause", the gamut of symptoms is actually quite large. I would not list changes in bowel habits as high on this list (related to extreme gas and bloating). "extreme" gas and bloating needs to be evaluated by a physician who should perform and abdominal and pelvic exam. Visit www.Nams.Org for menopause info. Varied: Some women are lucky enough to go thru peri-menopause w/o a hitch. Others complain of hot flashes, night sweats, irregular menses, moodiness, cognitive changes, decrease in libido, vaginal dryness and/or loss of lubrication, change in weight, change in skin, & more. Loss of bone density is well documented. ...Read more
Dr. Christine northrup mentions that women in perimenopause benefit from thyroid treatment regardless of test results, why do others disagree?
Need real evidence: Dr. Northrup, like dr. Oz, and others, tend to stay in the public eye because of media, sensationalism, self promotion. Some of the things they promote are good and based on sound scientific evidence, many things however, have no scientific proof. There are no legitimate studies that demonstrate a benefit to taking thyroid hormone in people who have no thyroid problem. Any med has side effects. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

51.7yrs., perimenopause, using Alesse. Have mild IC, bladder expansion, experiencing bladder fullness, unable to urinate. What are treatment options?
Not as ez as it seem: because the subjective feel/symptoms of too much bladder tone and too little are utterly indistinguishable without putting a pressure gauge into the bladder and actually seeing what is going on. With "mild IC' then, the likelihood of either is quite high. Obviously, the treatments are opposite. ...Read more
Life style: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle including regular exercise, a healthy diet, stress management, and adequate rest will help many women. Although natural products like black cohash or primrose oil have been used, the studies are not convincing. If symptoms are severe, talk to your doctor to see if you would be a candidate for Estradiol and Progesterone which occur naturally in women. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can perimenopause cause paresthesias which are felt on the face (tingling) & top of head (dripping)? If so, are there any treatments e.g. hormones?
Same as menopause: Perimenopause is the period of time when most women start to experience irregular periods and other symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings and night sweats.
