Is docusate sodium/sennosides appropriate for ibs-c and can it be used "freely", or are there side effects?
Took Cipro (ciprofloxacin) for GI infection. Stopped cause of side effects. Had fecal impaction(needed enema). Switched to Flagyl, w/colace. Will hard stools stop?
Explanation of lax: colace (docusate sodium) is not a laxative, just a softener-acts a litle like adding slipperyness to stool so it comes out easy-no stimulants miralax is a lavage, so it just goes thru your pipes and takes everything with it. so it acts like a laxative but not by stimulation of the intestines amitiza (like Linzess) simply interferes with absorption of water from the colon, making the stools more moist ...Read more
What is peri-colace (docusate sodium) used for. Any differences between it & regular capsules colace (docusate sodium). Which one is better for anal fissure and internal hemorrhoid.?
Slight difference: Colace (docusate sodium) is a stool softener. Pericolace is a stool softener plus a laxative. Treatment for anal fissure and internal hemorrhoid is to keep the stools formed and soft. Drink plenty of water and get plenty of fiber in your diet. Colace (docusate sodium) is probably better especially when combined with a high fiber diet. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
While peri-colace (docusate sodium) sheet suggests taking at bed time to heal anal fissure& hemorrhoid, what best time for regular colace (docusate sodium) can be taken and how often/day?
CHANGE MEDS: I would not continue to taken colace (docusate sodium) or pericolace (docusate sodium). These are not as effective as bulk meds such as metamucil or benefiber for aiding more normal stool evacuation with less straning. This will help prevent recurrent perianl disease such as fissures and hemorhoids. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Almost 2 weeks on lithium & i feel good. I prolly could use an lil more but I am constipation! i started colace (docusate sodium). Is that a side effect to lithium :|?
No: Your constipation is coming from your iron supplement. If it is persistent i would also have a thyroid level checked because hypothyroidism can cause constipation. Hypothyroidism is also a potential side effect of lithium but usually after long-term use. About 25% of people who use lithium will eventually develop hypothyroidism. I hope this helps. Best wishes. ...Read more
