Hello, My psychiatrist has taken an unannounced vacation, leaving me without a refill prescription. I really need to refill today, what can I do?
Depends on drug?: If it is not a narcotic, you may be able to fill prescription right here on HealthTap by talking to one of our telemedicine virtual docs. Otherwise, if your primary care provider is unavailable, try an urgent care clinic or emergency room where they will probably prescribe a couple of days worth until you can get to your psychiatrist. Bring your most recent bottle to prove you have a prescription. ...Read more
I have no insurance & my primary dr is 2 hrs away. Could I get my prescriptions refilled at a minute clinic or health clinic If I bring my bottles?
Yes: If you bring a recent Rx bottle, clearly marked, and you have a legitimate need for the medication you may, at the discretion of the provider, get a partial or complete refill, especially if there are refills allowed, as marked on the bottle and you don't do it all the time. It may get a bit salty if it's a controlled substance like Vicodin or Valium, etc. Best to arrange refill timing with your doc ...Read more
I had used healthtap to renew a prescription before an expected long distance move. The move was delayed then, but will be in 2 weeks. Can I refill?
Maybe: Whether a PRIME doctor prescribes medications depends on the doctor, the patient, and each individual situation. PRIME fees are the same, regardless of whether or not medication is prescribed, because the fees are for the consultations (not the meds). Also, you have posted this current question on HealthTap's free public information forum. Instead, try requesting a PRIME consultation. ...Read more
I have a prescription for adipex and I had 1 refill on it they told me they would not refill it and they would have to send a refill request??? Why?
Unlikely: The prescription, written with 6 refills, is kept on file in the pharmacy and can be refilled within the time limits of the state pharmacy law. If you doctor had a reason to cancel the refills, then he probably could call the pharmacist and do so. But this would be very unusual, especially for an item that has 6 refills to begin with. ...Read more

Complicated.: Pain medications are a sensitive subject, unfortunately. They are regulated by the DEA and state licenses for controlled substances. Finished an antiviral medicine, breakout not completely healed...should I refill it until outbreak completely gone or just use one prescription?
Herpes?: You don't say what you are being treated for, but "outbreak" suggests either genital or oral herpes. If it's a recurrent outbreak, treatment usually can be stopped once the sores are painless and well on their way to healing. However, the initial infection often requires longer treatment. If you remain uncertain, check with the doctor or clinic treating you. Good luck! ...Read more
I was taking bupropion in the past and stopped when I didn't have time to get a refill this past nov? Can I get a prescription for this med thru this?
Refills: From my knowledge, no, you cannot receive prescriptions through this outlet. It would be best for you to see your doctor who prescribed the medication, for the refills as well as to make sure dosing is appropriate and that you were doing well with the medication prior to stopping and whether it is warranted to continue with this medication or give you something else. Best of luck. ...Read more
Can getting a refill of an old prescription make you drowsier when first refilled than later on taking it...Example topomax and clariten for headache?
Taking too much?: I'm not sure I am understanding your problem, but it's possible that you used to take topamax (topiramate) and stopped, but now you are taking it again-- you typically cannot simply start back on the same dose you were on before. Topamax (topiramate) can be extremely sedating--should start with the lowest dose for at least a week or 2 and then very slowly and gradually increase to the dose that helps your headaches. ...Read more
Can I ask my psychatrist to give me early refill prescription to get ritalin (methylphenidate) without visiting him each month? I can't afford the amount every month!
Regulations ; review: There are regulations with stimulant medications that require regular physician monitoring. The prescriptions cannot be called in to pharmacies -- they must be newly provided for each 30 day supply. There may be times like vacations, etc that can be planned ahead for, but you need to discuss these with your psychiatrist. ...Read more
