Novocaine allergies=> cocaine allergies?

Novocaine allergies=> cocaine allergies?

Possibly: Both local anesthetics are esters, which means they are in the same family. However, true allergy is rare. Most commonly it is a side effect of Epinephrine added or a preservative. Lidocaine, Marcaine and other amide local anesthetics shouldn't cross-react. Cocaine has its own side-effects that are very dangerous so stay away, allergic or not. ...Read more

If i've conjunctivitis allergy, can it heal by allergy injection therapy ?Tried allergy meds : allegysal, patanol (olopatadine) and avil, Claritin loratadine, please help

Yes: Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis starts with eliminating or avoiding the allergen as well as rinsing the allergen from your eyes with plain water (reduces the allergen load). Allergy shots can help as can oral allergy meds. There are eye drops that help a great deal also. Steroid eye drops are very effective but are not used long term due to risk of glaucoma and cataract. ...Read more

Allergic to codine & codone. Is there another cough syrup similar to take?

No: For severe cough, we may prescribe Robitussin (guaifenesin) w/ codeine. It will help w/ cough suppression, illness pain, and insomnia. For people who do not tolerate codeine, vicotussin can be used; but that has hydro-codone, which you say you're sensitive to. That pretty much rules out the narcotics for cough suppression. You could use tessalon for great cough control, but without the sedation nor pain control. ...Read more

Oxycodone, hydrocodone and morphine cause hives. Will levorphanol do that as well?

Oxycodone, hydrocodone and morphine cause hives. Will levorphanol do that as well?

More than likely: yes. All opioids have the potential to release histamine from mast cells, which is what causes hives. The ones that do it most are morphine, codeine and hydrocodone, and the ones that do it the least are oxycodone, heroin and fentanyl. Levorphanol is metabolized into morphine and codeine, and if you have had problems before with these meds, very likely you will with levorphanol. ...Read more
