Percocet Vs Hydrocodone For Pain
Hydrocodone or dihydrocodeinone is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from two naturally occurring opiates: Codeine or thebaine. It is an orally active narcotic analgesic and antitussive. It is available in tablet, capsule, and syrup form. It is used to treat moderate to severe pain or as an antitussive to treat cough. Hydrocodone affects pain by ...Read more
No: Percocet is acombination of oxycodone and tylenol, whereas hydrocodone is found in vicodin, lortabs, Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) and a dozens of other generic combinations, also together with tylenol (acetaminophen). Hydrocodone and oxycodone are similar, but oxycodone is a little more potent, gets to the brain faster, and maybe has fewer side effects (itching, flushing, nausea) than hydrocodone, at least in some. ...Read more
Was taking 4 Percocet 39mg and 10 hydrocodone 10mg dropped me to 3 Percocet 20 a day having a tough time its not enough dosage been taken for25 yrs n?
Medications: Firstly you should never have been on such high doses and also on two short acting agents at the same time. You will have a major problem getting off or reducing the doses. I would strongly suggest you seek treatment with an addictionologist - you may be better off with in-patient detoxification. ...Read more

Been taking 30mg Percocet 4x a day plus hydrocodone 10 mg 6x a day for 25 yrs straight how long does it take to come off of with tapering to low dose?
That's a lot:
If someone is on greater than 100 mg/day, professional support is advised on tapering. This looks like double that. In general this would be often in the context of many addiction issues and would benefit from a 12 step program. Maybe inpatient/rehab for weeks with coming off supervised cold turkey/ rapid taper with a lot of support.
weeks rehab. Months otherwise. Cannot say in your case ...Read more
Percocet is oxycodone, while Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) is hydrocodone. They are both pain medications for moderate to severe pain. In terms of potency the 2 preparations are about equal. However some patients may do better with one of the preparations.

Depends: What kind of pain are you dealing with? Are you going to require long term therapy or is this pain due to acute injury with tissue damage? Is there a component of inflammation? Titration of Gabapentin requires time (gradual raising of dose) Some people do better on Gralise (once a day gabapentin) Percocet tends to be used after Hydrocodone. NSAIDS work better for pain if there is inflammation. ...Read more
Is hydrocodone the same as oxycodone? I'm allergic to hydrocodone and they gave me Percocet and I had the same reaction as hydrocodone.
The same: Both are opioids, but define what kind of reaction you had to either, was it itching, redness, ? those are rather side effects of the opiods in general not a true allergy, at any rate if you don't feel comfortable taking them, stop and ask your doctor for an alternative analgesic, a potent NSAID would do as good, wish you wellness ...Read more

Unable to take hydrocodone bc it causes extreme nausea & Percocet makes me irritble/mean. Wht else can be takn 4 pain? Havng sinus surgry soon.
Pain Medication: Pain may be treated in various ways. Opioids, like hydrocodone and Percocet work well around a time of surgery to help deal with acute pain. These medications are poor choices for the long run. Gabapentin and over-the-counters such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen may be good alternatives or supplement the use of opioids. ...Read more

I usually take 2, 5/325 of hydrocodone every six hours for severe hip pain. I was in a hurry and accidentally took 3! Will I be ok? Have high tolerance usually take Percocet without the acetaminophen. Thanks in advance!
Should be fine: You accidental extra pill still puts you below the maximum prescribed daily dosages of the Acetaminophen and hydrocodone. My concern would be as to what condition you are being treated for. I would hope other treatment options would exist to help relieve your hip pain besides or in addition to the narcotics? ...Read more
She must want help: Family members can only do so much. You can express your concerns to the doctor who is prescribing for her, since I would suspect that, at her age, she isn't obtaining the drug from "street" sources. You and other family members can attend alanon meetings to get help for yourselves - dealing with anger, guilt, shame etc. If she will accept treatment, help in finding help. Express caring, don't nag. ...Read more
I was given Morphine, IV it caused respitory arrest. I have taken Hydrocodone, Demerol, (meperidine hydrochloride) & Percocet, &was fine Can I take Codeine a morphine derivative?
Morphine: There is a greater risk when you take or get any medication IV. You had it. The Hydrocodone and the Percocet are oral and at much lower doses. Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) is not recommended oral and is usually used IV. While there is a risk it is small, it does increase if you use alcohol or other sedatives. ...Read more
How much time should I wait to take norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) after being on percocet?
Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) & Percocet: They are both short acting narcotic analgesics that may be taken every 4-6 hours as needed for moderate-severe pain only. Assuming you are discontinuing the Percocet & replacing with Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) there is no set waiting period other than the traditional 4-6 hours. Please take these medications ONLY as prescribed & be mindful to not exceed daily Acetaminophen doses which these medications contain. ...Read more
What to do if I have been taking lortab lorcet (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) percocet for 6 years just for fun. When I stop I'm really tired?
Some fun, huh?: Congratulations - you are now physically dependent on opiates. Fatigue and lethargy when stopping is a very common first withdrawal symptom/sign. Soon, if you continue using and don't get help with stopping and staying stopped, it will get much worse. Please recognize that whatever fun it might have been, you are paying a steep price that is soon to get MUCH steeper. Help is available. ...Read more
What do you suggest if I have been taking lortab lorcet (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) percocet for 6 years just for fun. When I stop I'm really tired?
You are having: Opioid withdrawal, and fatigue, lassitude and general lack of energy is a common symptom. This is in part because your body has stopped making endorphins, your body's own opioids. I strongly suggest you get involved in a treatment program, since 6 years of opioid abuse for "fun" likely means there are underlying psychological/psychiatric issues as well, and help/support will improve your chances. ...Read more
When I asked dr. To compare percocet 7.75/325 to norco, (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) his response was "they are different medications. That is not a comparison, is it?
They are!: But I suspect you wanted more than that! Percocet is oxycodone and Acetaminophen and Norco is hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Both are narcotic pain medications but Percocet requires a written prescription and cannot be "called in" to a pharmacy, whereas Norco can be e-scribed or called in. Either can be abused. ...Read more
Is the medicine norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) stronger then loratab or percocet? What is the difference?
What is better for pain after shoulder surgery: lorcet (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) or percocet?
Depends: Lorcet (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) contains hydrocodone and Percocet contains oxycodone, two different opiates. On a purely mg to mg basis, oxycodone is usually stronger but different people react to different opiates differently. If it were me I would start with percocet. You might also the anesthesiologist ask for an "interscalene block" which can give dramatic pain relief for the first day or so. ...Read more
How long will six percocet 5 stay in your urine, and two Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) fives?
In theory, ~1 day...: We estimate how long it takes body to get rid of drug at 5 half-lives. Half-life is time it takes for drug level to drop by 50%. So after 5 half-lives, you're down to 3.125% if I did my math correctly, which is essentially out of system. Oxycodone stays in body 3-4.5hrs depending upon reference (http://www. Rxlist. Com/oxycontin-drug/clinical-pharmacology. Htm). Metabolism is affected by many variabl ...Read more
If I took 6 5/325 mg hydrocodone throughout the day yesterday (technically Wednesday) and have a urine screening for opiates/opiods Friday at 4:15pm, will I pass? My doctor is doing the test because I threw out my Percocet prescribed for my kidney stones
Same class: The drugs are on the same class. Don't try to game the system. If you truly need chronic narcotic pain medication, see a pain specialist, usually an anesthesiologist specializing in the treatment of chronic pain. Best solution is to get to the root cause and fix it. If not possible, there are many alternatives to narcotics, which in the long term can make chronic pain worse in some patients. Hope this helps! ...Read more
Mu doctor had me on 8 norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) 10/325 a day but switched me to percocet 5/325 30 mg daily. The doctor said percocet was stronger but im in bad pain?
About the same: Opioids are all compared to the "gold standard"; which is 10mg intramuscular (IM) morphine. 2 Vicodin is equivalent to 1mg morphing IM. 2 Percocet equals 3mg, so it's stronger. HOWEVER, the best choice is always what works best for the patient. There is no real difference in dependence risk. Don't take more than prescribed, there is Tylenol (acetaminophen) in both and too much can seriously harm your liver, ...Read more

Close observation: The effect depends, first, on if you are taking opioid (narcotic) pain medicines regularly, or do not usually take them (opioid naive). It is much more dangerous in the later situation. In most patients, 40mg of oxycodone will produce, somnolence, fatique, lethargy, slowed respiratory rate, constricted pupils, light-headedness, and nausea. Be sure to not take any other medications, or otc depress. ...Read more
