Not enough activity: The simple formula which determines if you gain or lose weight is Calories taken in minus Calories used. Taken on a day to day basis, you can know if you are using up the calories or not. If calories eaten far exceeds calories burned up by whatever activity, weight is gained. It does not matter if the calories are fats proteins or carbohydrates, body chemistry turns the excess into fat to store it ...Read more
Depends on...: The number of grams of fat one should eat depends on the total number of calories he wants to eat each day, and the percent of calories he wants to be from carbs, fat, and protein. The site http://www.Freedieting.Com/tools/nutrient_calculator.Htm has a calculator. One can enter the total calories, such as 1500, and then the %, such as 20%carb, 40%fat, 40%protein, and get the results in grams/day. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not necessarily: There is no single diet that is best for everyone. I believe it is wise to minimize sugars and simple starches, but i believe a diet with whole grains, vegetables, fruit and low-fat proteins is healthier than a strict low carb diet (which is relatively high in fat and protein). See http://drrandybaker.Com/2013/01/20/diet-and-health/ for my essay on the pros and cons of various diets. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Fat is good for you: if it is good fat such as olive oil and coconut oil. Avoid transfats found in packaged foods and pastries. If you don't eat good fat you will feel hungry a lot, w/or w/out a special diet. Please do what your doc says but being a fathead is good. Eat butter rather than marjarine, trusting a cow rather than a chemist. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Extremes: I believe it is better for most to eat nearly everything in moderation instead of going on an extreme diet. I don't see how getting ketosis, which may reduce your appetite, can be good for the body. As for the high fat, too much saturated fat is likely harmful because it promotes inflammation. If you must, try unsaturated fat. ...Read more
