Doctor insights on:
I did a pep test. It says superficial squames intermiediate squmes & endocervical cells present lactobacilli (+) imflamation nil so what it mean?
My sis 24old has peutz-jeghers syndrome, she has to do pep-test but she is virgin, is there other way to check the cervix? Blood or urine test? Or MRI?
Pap options: Your sister is at VERY low risk for cervical disease, but PJ syndrome can have other neoplastic manifestations in the ovaries and bowel, so if the intent is to screen for those, then US, colonoscopy and other approaches are available. But pelvic exam is the low cost way to screen for ovarian enlargement. ...Read more
Oral thrush 8 weeks after potential HIV exposure, 4 weeks after PEP. Will test in 4 days. Should I prepare for HIV+ result because of the oral thrush?
Cervix not found by obgny I get pep-smear test done. My doctor had a hard time to locate my cervix. Is that normal and she said my vagina is very very deep. What is that mean? She said I was born like that. I'm 33 is that I'm not going to get pregnant.?
I really really don't like it when doctors don't explain themselves and scare the patient. First of all let me say you are fine. Your cervix is just hard to reach and is higher up than the average cervix. This is normal, just like a person is tall, short, has a crooked ear, or a bent nose.
This has no bearing on your fertility (you have already had a baby!) the only issue is that it may be difficult to reach when getting a pap smear or hard to insert a device like an iud (form of birth control). Other than that it should pose no problem for you. ...Read more
My doctor told me I was pregnant and I was about 8 weeks on (may28th) but she only did a pep n urine test. How was she able to give me a time frame?
Best time for testing HIV PCR and western bolt test after pep. I had protected vaginal sex. What's the risk? Plz kindly reply.
HIV ; PeP: You should test two weeks after stopping the medications. I would say risk is low. ...Read more
Is HIV detectable after window period (3 months) by hiv-antibody test if pep is taken after 8 weeks of exposure assuming HIV is transmitted?
Do follow up testing need for exposure person after pep if the source person is HIV rapid test and HIV duo test negative?
No: You don't need pep, or follow-up testing, after exposure to an hiv-negative person. ...Read more
I had a 4th Gen HIV combo test done 9 weeks post exposure and 5 weeks after completion of PEP. Is this conclusive? Tqvm.
Yes and no: Its conclusive for now. But your not done. Tests like this that measure antibodies have to be repeated up to 6 months to ensure 99% that your in the clear. ...Read more
I had negative results in 3rd gen rapid test and HIV duo 4th gen test 4weeks after pep completion and 7 weeks after exposure. How reliable are these?
I'm t1dm (finger pricks), got a fair amount of a customer's blood on my finger. Older man, my company is going to test him. Should I do pep meanwhile?
Depends on Risk: It sounds like you are in the medical field, and from your question I'm assuming you weren't wearing gloves. Getting blood from another person on a finger that you have a healing wound on is a very low risk of transmission of diseases like hepatitis b/c or hiv. If the man has those diseases, taking medication "just in case" may be a good idea. If a low risk individual, no. See your occhealth. ...Read more
Can PEP (truvada) increase the window period? Test six weeks after I end PEP or after exposure? Thanks!
Can I stop taking pep during 28days if the source person is HIV rapid antibody test and HIV duo test negative?
PeP for HIV: Yes. Probably. But, I always encourage my patients to complete the course once started. ...Read more
Do HIV antibody test positive during pep if someone has positive but didn't know. Someone has taken pep without testing. Plz kindly answer.
Exposed on 07/12/13 & 13/02/14. Hiv antibody test was negative on 7/3/14 but I was under pep for 2nd exposure. Is result conclusive for 1st exposure?
HIV antibody Testing:
It is not clear. Antibodies should continue to circulate if you are HIV positive when you are on HIV medications. But, if the test is negative it is very likely you did not get hiv. I do not believe the duovir alone is an appropriate or effective pep treatment.
The best test in this scenario is the HIV RNA or dna pcr test once you are at least two weeks off of your pep treatment. ...Read more
Hiv scare 7 weeks ago, took pep, had my first blood test today, 7 weeks post exposure, results negative, I know too soon to tell but how good is it?
I had exposure with prostitute. I called her and check HIV antibody test and duo test. Both negative. Advice for pep and is follow up testing need?
You're good: Hiv is a wimpy virus and hard to catch, especially by a man from a woman providing oral or vaginal sex. With follow-up labs negative after a reasonable time, you can stop worrying. An escort of some quality in the developed world is usually hiv-negative, but remember you can catch other things. Please use barrier protection if you plan to do this sort of thing again. ...Read more
Would an RNA PCR test be accurate after 20 days since my completion of PEP. This will be done in conjunction with an antibody and antigen test.?
HIV RNA test negative 12 days after finishing 28-day PEP regimen. Is it possible the test missed the virus because of the PEP, even after 12 days?
Need to wait 3 mo.: Probably your result is valid. However, in theory PEP might prolong the period from exposure to a positive test, if PEP doesn't work. But there are no data. Most HIV experts recommend waiting until 3 months after PEP for a conclusive Ag/Ab (duo) test. This is one reason PEP should only be done for good reason, i.e. truly high risk exposures. It prolongs the anxiety period until conclusive testing. ...Read more
I recently started the Pep medication and now have a rash a week after having started it, is that a side effect? My blood tests came back negative
I'm gonna finish a 28days PEP after frottage with HIV unknown status person. Can I take duo (antibody/antigen) test 4 weeks after PEP? Is it accurate?
Uncertain...: There has been little or no research on the extent to which PEP, if unsuccessful in preventing HIV, delays diagnostic test conversion. Probably a negative RNA test 18 days after completing PEP is close to 100% reliable, but nobody knows for sure. Some experts continue testing for 3-6 months after PEP. That's one of its disadvantages: prolongation of the period of uncertainty and anxiety. ...Read more
Took HIV Antibody 1&2 Test and P24 Antigen test 10 days after PEP. Results non-reactive. A bit early. All other blood panel metrics normal. Thoughts?
Not conclusive: These results are reassuring; it is unlikely you were infected. However, the results are not conclusive. Following PEP, it is necessary to test for HIV longer than otherwise, maybe up to 4 months. (PEP is great when needed, but it prolongs the time of uncertainty about whether infection occurred.) Discuss with the clinic or doctor who prescribed the PEP and follow his or her advice. ...Read more
French kissed random girl and I had a cut that is not bleeding in outer lip, Do I need to take PEP? And do I need to test? Help
PEP not needed:
Kissing is not a mode of transfer for the HIV virus, even with cuts or sores present.
However, kissing may lead to other forms of sexual activity where condoms are needed for protection. Have them and use them.
If you have been sexually active in the past but have never gotten tested for HIV before, its a good idea to get a baseline test now just so you know your status for sure. ...Read more
What is the accuracy of HIV testing (antibody and antigen) 6 weeks post PEP? I had all tests (Neg) including the pcr rna test at 22 days post pep.
HIV testing & RNA: Read the CDC updated recommendations on HIV testing. The rationale for this test being available is that HIV RNA is detectable in plasma before antibodies. A safe approach is to be tested after the eclipse period after potential exposure when no RNA nor antibodies to HIV can be detected. The RNA test is effective around 10 days after infection but seroconversion to antibodies may take 3 months. ...Read more
