I : I really really don't like it when doctors don't explain themselves and scare the patient. First of all let me say you are fine. Your cervix is just hard to reach and is higher up than the average cervix. This is normal, just like a person is tall, short, has a crooked ear, or a bent nose. This has no bearing on your fertility (you have already had a baby!) the only issue is that it may be difficult to reach when getting a pap smear or hard to insert a device like an iud (form of birth control). Other than that it should pose no problem for you. ...Read more

Paps smear test. I am a virgin but how to prove it when questioned?

Paps smear test. I am a virgin but how to prove it when questioned?

Confusing question: You mention a pap smear and then talk about virginity. The need to do surveillance for cervical cancer does not stop if you are not sexually active. Some triggers of this problem are related to sex, but not all. The procedure can be done with minimal intrusion in a modified pelvic exam, but it should not be avoided due to your status.Newer technology can also supplement the exam. ...Read more

Why do I have to do my smear test again. I just did last year. What is the reason?

Good question: Ask your provider doing the screening test. There are 3 "recommending bodies" regarding pap smears (the acs, uspstf, and the american college of ob/gyn). If normal, low risk, every 3 years, starting at age 21 is generally recommended. If you have a different risk, depending on your previous pap, or family hx etc., your provider may wish to increase your time interval between pap's. ...Read more

Depends on risk : Normal pap depends on risk factors like: past abnormal results? Treated for abnormality? Infected with hpv viral strain causing cervical cancer? If infected, strength of immunity? Tobacco use? Mother took des during pregnancy(used to prevent miscarriage)? At your age, automatic test for hpv type recommended if pap is abnormal. Cervical cancer grows slowly.
