Penta test came back for having high risk of Down Syndrome. How accurate is this test? Will Panorama possibly be negative?

Could be: there may be a one-in-five chance of a false positive or even a one-in-two chance, depending on the mother’s age. If the panorama is negative, then it was likely that the penta test did not screen properly. ...Read more

How accurate is triple AFP test for down syndrome?

How accurate is triple AFP test for down syndrome?

Not very.: The triple screen will detect about 70% of mothers carrying babies with down syndrome, but it is only a screening test and does not diagnose down syndrome. There are many false positive tests ("abnormal" tests in women who are carrying babies that do not have down syndrome). A newer blood test for fetal dna in the mother's blood can actually diagnose down syndrome in women who are at higher risk. ...Read more

How reliable is the Prometheus test for diganosing IBD? Doctor can't do colonoscopy bc of pregnancy, but test came back positive.

How reliable is the Prometheus test for diganosing IBD? Doctor can't do colonoscopy bc of pregnancy, but test came back positive.

Somewhat reliable: You are right when you say that colonoscopy with biopsy is the gold standard & would be preferable. Prometheus testing in the lab takes a combination of "markers" (blood reactants to inflammation in the bowel & genetic markers) & comes up with a probability estimate of inflammatory bowel disease: Crohn's or ulcerative colitis. It isn't 100%; your doc will have to interpret. ...Read more

What can you tell me about the treponemal tests (e.g. fta-abs test for antinclear antibodies, rheumatoid factor, and hypergammaglobulineia and le cell test)?

Plenty: And more than even the best of us can put into 400 characters. Please get with a reliable online source. FTA-ABS tests for the treponemes of syphilis but is not an antinuclear antibody; none of the others are tests for treponemes / syphilis. If you tested positive for any of these beyond FTA-ABS, the interpretation is subtle and best handled by your rheumatologist or general doctor ...Read more

Male 22, post orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, sometimes BP is 101/60 hr 56 at rest, is this safe? See profile for tests done for pots.
