What happens if you can't have a penicillin shot for syphilis?

What happens if you can't have a penicillin shot for syphilis?

Doxycycline: Doxycycline for 2-4 weeks is recommended if penicillin cannot be given, or sometimes ceftriaxone. However, penicillin is by far the best drug. If you had a severe penicillin allergy in the past, then probably penicillin should be avoided. Otherwise, it still might be the best choice for you. Discuss it with your doctor or, even better, an infectious diseases or STD specialist. ...Read more

Penicillin testing: Even though Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is typically tolerated if pcn-allergic, sounds like HealthTap dentists don't feel it is effective on dental infections. Go see an allergist to get penicillin testing, so a dentist can prescribe you the best antibiotic. Good chance you're no longer allergic. And follow their recommendations; get it done right the first time. ...Read more

Need expert help. Can someone allergic to penicillin or sulfa take cipro (ciprofloxacin)?

I would not expect : to see cross-sensitivity between ciprofloxacin (a flouroquinolone) and either a penicillin or a sulfa drug. All 3 are chemically different. While a person could be allergic to all three, it would typically be considered three different allergies, not a single allergy related to all three medications. ...Read more

Is there another drug combination for diverticulitis besides Flagel? I am also taking Bactrim due to allergies to Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) Keflex and Penecillin.

Is there another drug combination for diverticulitis besides Flagel? I am also taking Bactrim due to allergies to Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) Keflex and Penecillin.

Antibiotic allergies: You need the help of an ID doctor-since they are experts in antibiotics. First, I would want to 'define' ur allergies further-because sometimes a patient is labeled as 'allergic' & they aren't really allergic at all. That is really important. If ur truly allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins & cipro (ciprofloxacin) which is a fluoroquinolone, ur options are quite limited for oral therapy. Doxycycline might help. ...Read more

Is 1g of azithromycin and 400 mg of cefixime good against gonorrhea? Tried doxy+cipro already and it didn't work. I'm in Thailand, allergic penicilin

Is 1g of azithromycin and 400 mg of cefixime good against gonorrhea? Tried doxy+cipro already and it didn't work. I'm in Thailand, allergic penicilin

Should be OK: Gonorrhea bacteria in SE Asia, including Thailand, often are resistant to both ciprofloxacin and doxycycline, so no surprise they didn't work. Cefixime and azithromycin should be OK, but the best option would have been a shot of ceftriaxone 250 mg instead of cefixime. You should be retested in 2-3 weeks to be sure it's gone; if not, see an STD expert and discuss ceftriaxone. Good luck. ...Read more

Allergic to pennicillan can I take ciprofloxacin HCl for throat infectiom?

You could: But this antibiotic does not work great for strep throat, which really is the only time you need to take an antibiotic for a throat infection. If this hasn't been given to you by a doctor who has seen your throat, you definitely should not take it. It can lead to antibiotics not working when they are supposed to. ...Read more

If you took 3 penicillin would you be oka or would you overdose
?

OK: Thankfully, if you took 3 penicillin you don't need to go to the ER or call poison control. Depending on the strength of penicillin, sometimes it is dosed to take 4 times a day (not all at once), but if you accidentally took them all at once you still won't "overdose" - might get a stomach ache or diarrhea, but no OD. Still, always take your meds as prescribed!!! ...Read more
