Similar: The amoxicillin in Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) and Penicillin share a common core structure and thus people allergic to Penicillin are almost always allergic to amoxicillin. On the other hand, not all people reacting to amoxicillin are allergic to penicillin when the reaction is a skin rash. ...Read more

Took IV rocephin (ceftriaxone) and was ok, on 3rd day dosage raised, broke out in rash. Did high dosage cause reaction or just allergy in general? 38 F
Either is possible: rashes from antibiotics can occur even after you have taken it before. Did you just have a rash, or did you get fever and or hives too? Did you feel any shortness of breath? It is very possible that it was only the higher dose that triggered the reaction. The only way to tell is to cautiously try it again, but you should discuss with your doctor so s/he is fully aware and can gage the risk to y ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

With Cefzil & rocephin (ceftriaxone) I get hives.Should I take penicillin shot for syphilis treatment. This is a 3rd infection. Used doxycycline for first 2.
Condoned: Penicillin is still the first line treatment for syphilis. The most effective treatment for syphilis is not to get it, use a condom. The more often you get it, the greater your risk for antibiotic resistance. Also, with this being your third episode, you are now at high risk of contracting chlamydia and HIV. You need to get tested for those too. Stop playing Russian roulette with your life. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I have anaphylaxis from Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (documented by ED mds), is chlor trimeton ok to take instead?
No guarantee: Chlortimeton is a different chemical compared to benadryl (diphenhydramine) (Alkylamine vs Ethanolamine derivatives) so in theory it should be ok.Actual anaphylaxis reaction to antihistamines is not only rare, but every case report, there have been other drugs involved (co-ingested). Consider specific allergy testing because anaphylaxis is life-threatening and if it wasn't the benadryl (diphenhydramine) you need to know absolutely. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sulfa drugs- rash can I use polymyxin b sulfate eye drops?
Yes: Polymyxin is an effective anti-bacterial. You could use it without the allergies popping up as it has with others. However: are you sure you need this drop? Help please! is epipen (epinephrine) jr auto injectors used for all allergic reactions or just emergency reactions?
Limited use: The value of an Epipen (epinephrine) is its ability to help block a tragic evolving allergic reaction and provide time for a person to reach urgent followup care. It's effect is relatively short (hour or so).If you simply break out in hives as a food reaction, it could help some, but since the food will be processed in your body for days, a longer agent like Diphenhydramine or citirazine would be more benificial. ...Read more
