Do you think pelvic pains during period are symptoms of fibroids or endometriosis?

Dysmenorrhea: Endometriosis and fibroids are two of the most common causes of dysmenorrhea (painful periods). Other common causes are ovarian cysts, varicose veins in the pelvis or something similar to endometriosis in the muscle of the uterus, called adenomyosis. Often, birth control pills and/or Ibuprofen are sufficient to minimize the pain. If those do not work, have an evaluation by a gynecologist. ...Read more

Pain when bowel move across a particular area + pelvic cramp and deep rectal pain upon pushing DURING period. No period = no pain. Cause of concern?

Not sure: With just this little detail, it is impossible to pinpoint the problem. Sometimes a woman can have endometriosis or another cause which is only apparent at the time of her period. Your first step should be to consult your gynecologist for a complete exam and to determine if any other tests need to be done. Good luck. ...Read more

Endometriosis?: See you Family Doc and get checked out for endometriosis. Your symptoms sound severe, especially to have started in your teens! It is especially telling if you have deep-penetration sex pain. Plan on having a pelvic exam and an ultrasound for a complete evaluation. If it's not endometriosis, then those investigations will take you closer to a diagnosis and then a treatment. ...Read more

Experiencing pelvic discomfort and sore back pain during period (2 days now). Felt small, hard pea-sized lump in groin area. What could it be?

STD?: The pea sized nodule you are feeling may be a lymph node and it may be enlarged due to an infection. The pelvic pain and back pain may be due to cervix infection. Usually these things occur together in something like Chlamydia infection and/or gonorrhea. Can you have your pelvic exam on the 4th day of your period?

Can you have your pelvic exam on the 4th day of your period?

Yes: A pelvic exam to check the uterus and ovaries can be done at any time, including during heavy bleeding. If the pelvic exam is being done to check for cervical cancer or pre-cancer with a pap smear, it is best to do it when bleeding is minimal. Often routine pap smears can be done only every 2 to 3 years, but the annual exam includes much more preventative care than just the pap smear. ...Read more

More involved: Pelvic exams are recommended for those who are sexually active to screen for std's or by age 21 if not. Pain on lower ab by ovaries, no period after taking pill. Do I need to see the gyno again for pelvic exam last time it was when almost 18, 2 yrs ago?

Yes: I believe that you are implying that you were not getting a period, and were not able to 'induce' a period using the pill. I hope that my assumption is correct - if I am, this is called 'secondary amenorrhea' if you previously did get a period. This should prompt a more thorough workup of causes and yes, you should see your doctor. ...Read more

What if you don’t want to have a pelvic exam can you still get the birth control to regulate your period?

What if you don’t want to have a pelvic exam can you still get the birth control to regulate your period?

Maybe: It depends on the setting. If you are sexually active and thus at risk of sexually transmitted diseases, it is not ethical to prescribe pills without a full evaluation. If you are not, there are ways to gather basic information without a pelvic exam that are reasonable. This is something you can ask the office crew or doctors nurse before you schedule an evaluation. ...Read more
