Person i knew who was prodigy in visual arts committed suicide at 23. Is there some link btw the arts and suicide?

Possibly: Though there is no specific correlation, there may be a higher incidence of "mental illness" among artists and many individuals with mental illness are very artistic. Many very well known artists have suffered from schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. One example is vangough. The stigma of mental illness leads to reluctance to seek help and leads to vulnerability to suicide. ...Read more

Are kids under greater peer pressure to misbehave in HS or college?

Are kids under greater peer pressure to misbehave in HS or college?

Interesting question: Kids are always under peer pressure. As kids mature, they become more self assured & independent (usually following ideals instilled by parents) rather than depending on others for validation. College represents a problem in that this is the first place young adults are completely on their own to make good or bad choices. A person is always responsible for their actions high school or college. ...Read more

Relax! : First things first. These are not your problems. However you can acquire some of them if you don't learn to cope. Smoking is not a coping mechanism. It is an addiction and will lead to COPD and BP problems. Exercise vigorously 30 minutes daily and learn to meditate on a daily basis. Eat a breakfast every day containing protein. Drink 8 glasses of water. Sleep 8 hours. Drop the daily newspaper. ...Read more

Hi, can brain training web games (eg lumosity.Com) be harmful to kids above 3 years? Kids seem to love playing it - but is there any side-effect?

Hi,
can brain training web games (eg lumosity.Com) be harmful to kids above 3 years? Kids seem to love playing it - but is there any side-effect?

Above three?: Do you mean above or below the age of three? Recent studies suggest that children under the age of two, really do not benefit from any video electronics. They can be too overstimulating. All children's tv programming should be limited to no more than one hour per day. I do not believe in having a tv in a child's room. You are not doing your kids a favor by exposing them too early to media. ...Read more

Ever since dealing w/crohns, i've become a bit socially w/drawn (dating & social outings) d/t unpredictable bathroom situation. Is this social phobia?

Not really: While embarrassment about diarrhea in a social situation can commonly cause someone with crohns to avoid social settings, it's a bit different than social phobia, where someone has a more pervasive sense of embarrassment about him or herself.
