Yes: All addiction is unhealthy; however, spending a lot of time playing video games is not neccesarily bad unless it is leading to predictably negative consequences in your life.. A former patient of mine who spent a lot of time on games, got a job working for a games development company getting the kinks out. If there are negative consequences, counseling may be appropriate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If a child grows up playing violent video games, would that effect their state of mind in the future?
Theoretically, is group memory repression real: can an entire family who was traumatized repeatedly repress hundreds of memories over years?
Not in real life: Maybe such stuff happens in movies or on the internet. In real life, if two people experience an event, one of them will remember even if the other one forgets. There is no way that a whole group of people will forget an event. ...Read more
Person i knew who was prodigy in visual arts committed suicide at 23. Is there some link btw the arts and suicide?
Possibly: Though there is no specific correlation, there may be a higher incidence of "mental illness" among artists and many individuals with mental illness are very artistic. Many very well known artists have suffered from schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. One example is vangough. The stigma of mental illness leads to reluctance to seek help and leads to vulnerability to suicide. ...Read more

As kids mature, they become more self assured & independent (usually following ideals instilled by parents) rather than depending on others for validation. College represents a problem in that this is the first place young adults are completely on their own to make good or bad choices. A person is always responsible for their actions high school or college. ...Read more

Relax! : First things first. These are not your problems. However you can acquire some of them if you don't learn to cope. Smoking is not a coping mechanism. Drink 8 glasses of water. Sleep 8 hours. Drop the daily newspaper. ...Read more

can brain training web games (eg lumosity.Com) be harmful to kids above 3 years? Kids seem to love playing it - but is there any side-effect?
Above three?: Do you mean above or below the age of three? Recent studies suggest that children under the age of two, really do not benefit from any video electronics. They can be too overstimulating. All children's tv programming should be limited to no more than one hour per day. I do not believe in having a tv in a child's room. You are not doing your kids a favor by exposing them too early to media. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Diagnostic Criteria: To actually meet diagnostic criteria for ptsd one has to have actually experienced a traumatic event. So after watching a violent movie while one could experience symptoms similar to posstrauma symptoms like anxiety, nightmares, hypervigilance, etc. One will likely not receive a formal diagnosis of ptsd.
