Recently 2 days back our pediatrics during 4 month wellness child checkup, found that our boy's left testicle is very small. Dr ordered ultrasound and the report was "Left Testicle Atrophic".
He just talked over phone gave us this news. Our life is comple
Atrophic Testicle: This will have no clinical significance. Sometimes there is an intra utero torsion ( ie. the testicle gets twisted during development). Many men are born with one testicle and they go on to have a normal life and children. Sperm production is completely normal in the other testicle. Hope this helps. :) ...Read more
Depends: Fees are generally based on what is being done. New patient visits often take more time and may include vaccinations or tests. These extras add cost. A simple sick visit for an earache might require just a simple exam and treatment plan.I would plan on a minimum of $75-100 with most of the cost going to pay the doctors overhead costs. ...Read more
My 8 year old is having delirious episodes. He has a long history of health problems so I guess we are taking him to a childrens hospital cause his pediatrician is no help. Are we doing the right thing?
Either one is fine: If you think you have genital herpes you should be seen...a pediatrician can treat you (and perform the other tests that are indicated--such as HIV, chlamydia and GC testing) OR you can see a gynecologist or a family practitioner. THe important thing is for you to get seen and treated. Family planning clinics are often a good place to go to keep expenses down and to ensure confidentiality. ...Read more
Pediatrician forgot to tell me to give baby vitamin d supplements (exclusively breastfed). Now 6 weeks old. Health problem for baby?
No worries!: There has likely not been any harm done to your baby. Just go ahead and start the d-visol drops now at 1ml daily. I've had parents forget or refuse to give it and the babies are ok. Nonetheless, it is still preferred to supplement with a vitamin d drop to prevent rickets in infants. ...Read more
My son's pediatrician heard a "loud second heartbeat" during his wellness checkup. Any idea what this problem is?
Talk to your pedi: If your pediatrician noted an abnormality on your child's physical exam, they should discuss this with you. Please ask them for a clarification. In general if heart sounds are noted that a doctor feels is concerning and abnormal, an echocardiogram may be done to further evaluate. ...Read more
Good question: I don't see a way to file a complaint with abp. However, if you really feel that your pediatrician has done something wrong, please start a conversation with him/her. Pediatricians are extremely interested in helping your child and can even suggest second opinions. The abp maintains specialty certification, the worst they could do was revoke certificaiton, but not a medical license to practice. ...Read more
Why does the american academy of pediatrics say not to exceed a maximum of 32oz of formula in 24hrs?
Knows how kids grow: Developmental pediatrics is special branch of pediatrics that deals with how kids normally and abnormally develop emotionally and with their skills, speech and learning. Infant circumcision benefits outweigh the risks according to the american academy of pediatrics (aap). What are other opinions?
Infant Circumcision: Recent research found that there was not enough evidence that circumcision definitely prevented UTI and STD and hence currently circumcision is considered to be more for religious or family preferences. The coverage for the procedure by the insurances has also undergone a slight change recently. But many still are strong in the belief that there is a definite benefit from circumcision ...Read more
Is completion of medical school one of the pre-requisites to becoming a fellow in the american academy of pediatrics?
Pediatrics only. Feel rushing fluids and gurgling in 6wk babe. I hv very fast milk she drinks 90 gulps in 90 seconds and full.Causing peristalsis?
Normal:-) : 6 week olds have very loud gurgly tummies. I call them "volcano belly". This is normal and is not related to the speed of your milk flow, though yours does sound fast. Persistalsis is the term for the normal movement of the intestines. So yes, the milk is causing peristalsis because it is supposed to. If your baby is gaining weight easily, relax mama and enjoy your 90 second speed feedings. ...Read more
