3month old with RSV is it safe to give her pedialyte as well as breastfeeding to keep her hydrated?

Need to know if its okay to give my 6 months old pedialyte he weighs 20 lbs he went to the doctor yesterday he wouldnt stop throwing up they said make sure he stays hydrated but we don't know if we can give him pedialyte

Pedialyte : Pedialyte is totally fine for a 6 month old. If he is having trouble keeping fluids down, one tactic you can use is to feed him pedialyte from a spoon. If you give him a tablespoon of fluid every minute, it is often enough fluid to keep him hydrated, but not enough all at once to trigger him to vomit. Once he is able to keep spoonfuls down for a few hours you can then try the bottle again. If he is unable to keep any fluids down, or if he develops fever or bloody or dark green vomit, call his doctor. You should also call your child's doctor if you see any signs of dehydration. These signs are: - dry mouth -few or no tears when crying -excessive fussiness -fewer than 3-4 wet diapers/day -no urination in 6-8 hours -sunken soft spot -dry, wrinkled or doughy skin -appears weak or limp -decreased alertness or increased sleepiness -rapid breathing or fast heart rate. ...Read more

My 8mo has diarrhea. Can we give her pedialyte to help hydrate her? How many oz can we give her? She's almost 16lbs.

My 8mo has diarrhea. Can we give her pedialyte to help hydrate her? How many oz can we give her? She's almost 16lbs.

Yes: Absolutely you can give her pedialyte. There really isn't a recommended amount that you have to stick to. You just want to replace what is coming out. It would be fine to offer 4-6 ozs and offer that every few hours. As long as she is making normal amounts of urine, she's good. If she's not making urine, or if she's refusing all oral fluids then it's time for an office visit. ...Read more

Can i give my 11 month old pedialyte for a stomach bug to keep her hydrated? And how long before I should take her to the hospital,

Absolutely!: Pedialyte, or any of the generic oral rehydration solutions, are excellent things to use for those stomach bugs. Easy to digest, keeps baby hydrated. Give tiny amounts frequently. She may be tempted to gulp large amounts, but if you do that you are likely to see it come back at you!. There are also pedialyte popsicles that work great. Get concerned if no urine output in over 12 hours, listless... ...Read more

My 9 mo. Old has had a fever 101-103.4 for the past 3 days. He started vomiting after feedings toda. What can I give to keep hydrated?Dnt hve pedilyte

Pedialyte!: Hydration is extremely important. Fever combined with vomiting and or diarrhea dehydrate a kiddo quickly! go slow, really slow. 10-15 ml at a time. You may still get some vomit but as long as you see wet diapers something is going in. If the vomit or fevers persist, you don't see frequent wet diapers or the vomit becomes bright green or bloody seek immediate medical attention. ...Read more

Can children get sick from to much pedialyte?

Can children get sick from to much pedialyte?

Yes: It should not be the only source of diet from more than 48 hours. As long as other foods are added it can be continued a little longer. It only contains a small amount of sugar, electrolytes and water. It is not a complete food source and would lead to malnutrition if continued too long, or not used along with other foods and milk. ...Read more

How does pedialyte work?

How does pedialyte work?

Simple fluid : Pedilyte is essentially the same thing as the IV fluid your doc would give to keep your kid hydrated. You just get it in through the stomach in small frequent amounts, rather than through a tube in a vein. Since it requires no digestive work, it allows your gut to rest and heal while it is being used. ...Read more
