Can pedialyte cure vomitting due to stomach flu or virus in adults?

Can pedialyte cure vomitting due to stomach flu or virus in adults?

No: During episodes of diarrhea & vomiting, a body rapidly loses vital minerals and nutrients, which can quickly lead to dehydration. Using pedialyte at the first signs of diarrhea and vomiting can help reduce the risk of dehydration. Pedialyte is an electrolyte replacement beverage and not directly a cure for vomiting.

Is pedialyte better than coconut water and gatorade when someone has gastric flu / stomach flu?

Is pedialyte better than coconut water and gatorade when someone has gastric flu / stomach flu?

Yes: Pedialyte is formulated with just the right amounts of fluids and electrolytes to replace what you need. Coconut water has almost no electrolytes, and many of the gatorades have way to much sugars for use in gastroenteritis. However, with an adult or older child, any fluids are better than none and resultant dehydration.

I have the stomach flu I drink a lot of pedialyte the vomiting is gone, but the diarrhea continues third day now.?

Normal: That's not unusual for stomach flu. It depends on the particular virus that caused the stomach flu (aka. Viral gastroenteritis). Sometimes stomach flu symptoms can last 10-14 days. As long as you're stay hydrated and are replacing electrolytes you should be fine. In children the use of otc probiotics (ex. Culturelle) has been shown to lessen the duration of diarrhea.
