My 17 year old son has a pea size lump on the back of his neck under the skin it doesn't move it's just below hairline left side. What could this be?
Possible cyst: Some individuals have a prominent point at the base of the skull bone in the midline in the back, and could feel like a nodule. Other likely diagnosis would be a sebaceous cyst, which arises from a hair follicle. They are benign and do not need to be removed unless iinfected, or painful, or continue to enlarge, in which case an excision is important to identify the true nature of the nodule ...Read more

Lump on the back of neck, almost 15 years old, it was pea sized lump with no pain. Since yesterday he is feeling pain with inflammation. Help pls.
Lymph node: I'm sorry he isn't feeling well. The lump is most likely an inflamed lymph node. Lymph nodes get bigger and tender when fighting off an infection. The infection may be close by (scalp may have lice or ringworm, a local skin infection, for example). Once the infection clears, the lymph node should also subside. If it doesn't, another reason will have to be investigated. Best to go see his doctor! ...Read more

I have a pea sized lump behind right ear at hairline and lump on back of neck right side. What could this be?
Cyst/node: The lesion behind the ear could be a sebaceous cyst (when sweat gland gets plugged & forms a cyst), the neck could also be a cyst but enlarged lymph node (may be indicative of underlying inflammation/infection) needs to be considered also. Would recommend evaluation with a Physician. ...Read more

Lymph node: There are thousands of lymph node located around the body that help screen out germs in the body serum. There are many in the neck, head & behind the ear. He has a lump on the back of his neck, it is almost 15 years old, it was a silent pea sized lump with no pain. But he is feeling pain in it sin?
Have it checked: It's hard to evaluate such a question online, but it's possible it could be a cyst of some sort or even an enlarged lymph node or even something else. My best advice would be to have his doctor take a look at it and that way he or she would also be able to do a more thorough exam on the rest of him as well to see if there could be involvement of other parts of the body. Best wishes. ...Read more
I have a hard, pea sized lump right side of my neck towards the back. Noticed 3 months ago, not got bigger or smaller. Does it sound serious?
Probably not cancer: IF the lesion has not been growing, it is reasonable to observe this over time. If it grows or new ones occur, I suggest being seen. This could be a noncancerous lymph node or a cyst beneath the skin. If it does not move about under the skin when you push on it and it appears to have a tiny black spot in the middle, it is probably a skin cyst. ...Read more

Your "lump" can be something common that doesn't necessarily need treatment (lipoma, sebaceous cyst) or something treatable (boil, abscess) or something potentially serious (enlarged lymph node) or something definitely serious (cancerous tumor).
