My 3 year old is on her 2nd set of pe tubes (t&a removed).Left tube is in the ear canal & is infectioned.Is it recommended/safe to replace this tube?

Ear tubes: If the tube has come out and infections return, it is reasonable to replace the tube. Consider adenoidectomy if it hasn't been done yet. Don't worry, your child will most likely grow out of this. ...Read more

Highly unlikely: Making an incision and placing a tube in the ear drum can cause scarring. However, it is highly unlikely that the scarring would cause any hearing loss, even after repeated tube placement. Just let them know: RAD is not a reason not to have tubes, I have even used general anesthesia to stop a status asthmaticus in a kid with bad asthma (worked well when nothing else did). As long as the anesthesiologist knows the kids past history they can modify any plans they need to. ...Read more
