I have PCOS & tried Metformin 500 mg daily but seemed to lower my blood sugar. Will it work & be okay if I try it every other day instead?

Not likely: Merformin has to be taken daily. You need to discuss with your prescribing doctor and it all depends how low your blood sugar goes and if it is symptomatic or not. I will discuss with the doctor before you make any changes on your own. Some times the daily dise may be reduced or if sugar is not too low, it can be continued. ...Read more

I'm pcos patient.26age. Metformin 1000mg for 3 months. Periods regular 31-33 days long cycle. Want to get pregnant. Clomid? How? When? How much? Please

Ovulation testing: PCOS patients often do not ovulate. If you are having regular cyclic periods now then you may be ovulating. Ovulation testing is the next step. This should be done before taking ovulation medication like Clomid. Consider a midluteal phase Progesterone blood test to help determine the next steps. ...Read more

I'm diagnosis with pcos and using metformin+ocp, when my period is over, I had another one after 1 week, I'm very worried is it real period or bleedin

Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

Today is day 9 on my period. It is only when I wipe after I pee and is brown. What could this be? I am 30 y.O. And have pcos. I take metformin in hopes to help get pregnant. My periods are usually regular and last 7 days. This period was a little heavier

This: This type of bleeding is a result of an anovulatory cycle (meaning you did not ovulate this month). The uterine lining builds up and sheds in an abnormal pattern when this happens. The brown blood is usually old blood that has been "stuck" in the uterus for longer than a month, and when it finally comes out it is brown in color.
Keep up with the metformin, try to lose weight, and follow up with your doctor.
Best of luck. ...Read more

My Doctor started me on metformin for PCOS. Is this a good medication? Really want to try to regulate my periods.

Usually Very!: Polycystic ovarian syndrome is now much better understood. The majority of time insulin resistance is a central feature. A few people have variants or other conds mistaken for PCOS. IF YOU HAD A GOOD eval & have Classic PCOS, this is an EXCELLENT MED that helps with ovulation (other meds may be needed as well)! It also prevents other comps. The key is experienced Endos& Gyns working together. ...Read more

I have PCOS I conceived on metformin, gave birth 8months ago, I breastfeed and want to conceive again but have trouble. Can I take metformin during bf?

See details: Breast-feeding can prevent ovulation. If your PCS also prevents ovulation, you will need to use something to assist with ovulating. If metformin helped in the past, this can be used again but I would suggest you complete your breast-feeding since that will work against you. ...Read more

Could I be pregnant? I have pcos, and was late taking a birth control pill a day before having unprotected sex. Also on metformin for pcos.

Pregnancy tests are available at any pharmacy and in minutes you will have your answer. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. ...Read more

Took Metformin 500 mg daily 4 PCOS but stopped once it caused severe low blood sugar symptoms. Is this normal as I have mild IR and Glucose is 87?

Metformin: Metformin generally doesn't cause hypoglycemia (blood sugar below 60). Sometimes when the blood sugar spikes sharply upward and then drops to normal quickly, symptoms similar to hypoglycemia can occur. If this happens to you, avoid eating concentrated sweets to avoid those spikes in blood sugar. An endocrinologist can advise you further. ...Read more

Ovulation with PCOS: Pcos requires expert management. Consider your goals in treatment - do you want to conceive, or are the symptoms of pcos the main problem?

It is difficult: Diet and exercise are the routes to weight loss. While exercise is important, dietary restriction is by far the most effective way to lose weight. You can only lose weight if you burn more calories than you consume, and it is far more effective to restrict you caloric intake than it is to try to exercise to burn off excess calories. Good luck. ...Read more
