Pcos Hair Loss
The only reason I am on birth control pill is due to pcos related hair loss, will adding saw palmetto help hair loss or will it counter birth control.
Saw palmetto: There is no evidence that it will help your hair, but evidence that it may interfere with your birth control. Are you on Metformin for the real problem with PCOS and testosterone? That being insulin resistance. If not suggest it to your physician or see an endocrinologist. Your best bet would be to see a dermatologist for help with your hair loss. ...Read more
Alopecia is the loss of hair. Hair loss can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles. Fungal infections can also cause hair loss. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head thins and falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called female diffuse hair loss. Abnormal hair loss for almost 1 month. Have PCOS and take medication daily. It doesn't stop or get better. What to do?
Rogaine: Testosterone metabolized to DHT or dihydrotestosterone causes male pattern hair loss in women with PCOS along with acne, thickened body hair, and problems with weight and fertility. Glucophage aids in weight loss and fertility and has only rarely if ever caused hair loss. I would try Rogaine 2%(minoxidil) over-the-counter. There is also 5% available by prescription. ...Read more
Can hair removal help pcos women or the situation get worse with that? And what should pcos woman eat? In case of hair loss, hair can grow again?
Removing hair: Will not effect your pcos in anyway. The hair is a byproduct of the hormonal dysfunction related to pcos and changing hair will not effect the pcos itself in anyway. As for diet, this can be a more complex issue, but people with pcos can have trouble with carbohydrates/sugars, and you should consider trying to avoid sweets and sugars, including breads and rice, if possible. I hope that helps! ...Read more

Yes, unlikely dairy: Many things can interrupt the normal growth of hair so that it stops growing and lost hairs are not replaced by new. Most common is significant illness, chemicals, esp cancer Rx, hormone imbalance such as thyroid or cortisol, and autoimmune disorders. Your doctor can do blood tests to check these out. ...Read more

Pcos is a metabolic disorder affecting 8-10% of women that may cause irregular periods, acne or increased hair growth, infertility or subfertility, and increases the risk of diabetes.
