I have pcos qnd just had a week long period that ended 7 days ago and now I just started again. Why is this happening?
PCOS: Pcos is notorious for causing irregular menstrual cycles, interfering with the desire to get pregnant and alters you fasting sugar levels much in the way as would a diabetic. Usually, birth control can help with regulating the menstraul cycles. You may also be placed on a medication called metformin in that will aid in preventing as well as treating diabetes. ...Read more

Lack of evidence: There is not much evidence to support the use of beta sitosterol for PCOS. The theoretical mechanism of action is that it would influence the enzyme 5-Alpha Reductase. Some studies have been done regarding Prostate disease but the outcomes were not promising ...Read more

Ovulation testing: PCOS patients often do not ovulate. If you are having regular cyclic periods now then you may be ovulating. Ovulation testing is the next step. 40y/o hx of CRC, PCOS, IVF, HNPCC-. Cyclic heavy bleeding (~3day clots) since mense returned 6mo ago after stopping breastfeeding. Spotting & dark bloody mucus b/w periods. Shortened cycle length & prolonged (12d+) bleeding. FSH 10.3. Is it normal?
Short cycle/bleeding: At 40, and with an FSH of 10.3, the ovaries are requiring almost a menopausal level of FSH to ovulate a mature egg, which also creates a much higher level of estrogen, making the lining of the uterus thicken, which causes heavier periods. The cycle is shortened because you are ovulating at day 7-8 instead of day 14 or 15, so your periods will occur at day 21 or so. ...Read more

Last period was 4/17/17. Was diagnosed with PCOS on 6/13/17. Dr just prescribed Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days. Is that the right dose? Too much?
It's a fine dose: I usually prescribe Provera 10 mg per day for 10 days, but 20 mg per day for 5 days should do the same thing. The goal is to cause a "withdrawal bleed". Having a surge of progestin in your system, followed by the abrupt drop off in level of progestin, causes your uterine lining to shed, like a period. The bleeding should occur within a few days (up to a week) after stopping the Provera. ...Read more

Saw new GYN. Dx of pcos since 12. Dr said I don't have it since I still get period every month 25-40 day cycles even though I have most clinical sympt?
Hard to answer:
12 is usually too early to diagnose PCOS as most 12 year olds do not ovulate every month yet. PCOS is also something that people can grow out of on occasion.
In order to diagnose PCOS a patient must have 2 out of the 3 following symptoms: irregular periods, signs of elevated testosterone (acne or hair growth) and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound. ...Read more
