If Lexapro helped me with my social anxiety and depression, could Paxil (paroxetine) help me more?

If Lexapro helped me with my social anxiety and depression, could Paxil (paroxetine) help me more?

Possibly: Lexapro and Paxil (paroxetine) are both effective for depression and anxiety. Some people do not tolerate side effects of one or another. Others don't respond to adequate trial of maximum doses. Then a switch is indicated.
Before switching, your doctor should adjust the dose for a while to check for better effect and diminished side effects. ...Read more

Would you recommend Zoloft or Lexapro for gad and social anxiety? I have been on Lexapro and felt less 'numbed' to everything than when I was on Paxil (paroxetine)

Would you recommend Zoloft or Lexapro for gad and social anxiety? I have been on Lexapro and felt less 'numbed' to everything than when I was on Paxil (paroxetine)

Good choice: My experience: lexapro is on the leading edge. It is a more precisely made molecule, derived from celexa. Acts more quickly than the typical ssri wait for 3-4 weeks and find it works fully in 1-2 weeks per a given dose regimen. Side effect profiles same as other ssri's. Other ssri's good too. I like to stay away from paxil (paroxetine) as found it too short acting-> irritability/anxiety. Talk to ur doc. ...Read more

What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?

What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?

Not benzo's.: Hello - long term use of benzodiazapines can lead to tolerance. Marijuana can cause marked psychiatric problems in some people including anxiety, psychosis & paranoia. Paxil can be used long -term but most of my patients have experienced more side effects with it then from Lexapro & zoloft. I see you are on Lexapro -it has an excellent side effect profile. Buspar (buspirone) is very safe for long-term use. ...Read more

I am on a 30 mg dose of Paxil (paroxetine) but out of my script and not feeling well. Can I take Lexapro in the meantime and if so what dose?

Paxil (paroxetine): Get back on your Paxil (paroxetine) ASAP. This is now a very inexpensive medication that you should easily be able to afford. You can't be switching back and forth amongst different antidepressants. Call the doctor on call and get at least 1 or 2 Paxil (paroxetine) until you can be seen. There are all night pharmacies. ...Read more

In your opinion, what's the best medicaition for severe ocd. I've tried Paxil (paroxetine) and Lexapro to no avail. This is just a question, not seeking meds onlin?

OCD: I don't think that there is one best medication. Most of the ssri's can be effective. I have used zoloft (sertraline) a lot for ocd. Anafranil which is actually a tricyclic antidepressant (older class) can also be helpful. You & your physician may need some trials before you get just the right medication (s). Take care. ...Read more

What's the difference between paxil, (paroxetine) Prozac and lexapro? Do they do the same thing? Different side effects? Ones better vs others?

Complicated question: There are quite a few differences between the SSRI's - however - the best drug (most especially in psych) is the one that works best for you. The response rate to any psych drug is very subjective and really varies from person to person. Wish I had a better answer for you / but talk to your doctor about what your concerns are and craft a treatment plan together. Hope that helps! ...Read more

Switched to Paxil (paroxetine) from Lexapro. Also take Valium, in process of weaning. Paxil (paroxetine) was first AD I took many years ago. Could it help my Panic again?

See discussion: There’s no reason that paxil (paroxetine) wouldn’t manage your panic disorder even if you’ve been off of it. Much of it depends upon how well you responded to it in the past, if you had side effects, etc.
Please discuss with your provider such that you may be prescribed an adequate dose to treat your symptoms.
Good luck! ...Read more

Working w docs but is there any other drug besides Paxil (paroxetine) that doesn't cause lots of weight gain and major constipation? I tried lexapro, not good.

Bupropion: Bupropion or Wellbutrin (bupropion) is the antidepressant thought to be associated with less weight gain and, fortunately, fewer sexual side effects as well. In addition, an older class of anti-depressants, tricyclics including amitriptyline, do not typically cause weight gain. Finally, a less often used class of anti-depressants, MAO inhibitors, may be worth consideration. Work with your doctor. Good luck:) ...Read more

I have SEVERE OCD, & panic disorder. I take 8mg Valium a day, today switched to Paxil (paroxetine) from Lexapro. Worried about SFX, but don't really care if helps?

Medication effects: You are a Precious Human Being!
Using Valium with Lexapro may increase dizziness, confusion, impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination.
Both Lexapro and Paxil (paroxetine) may make depression worse; stopping Lexapro quickly may have withdrawal symptoms.
For evaluation of these and for treatment of severe OCD and Panic Disorder, please go to ER for Diagnosis and Inpatient Psychiatric Treatment. ...Read more

Gabapentin: You could talk to your doctor about augmentation with Gabapentin to see if it will help reduce anxiety. Another option would be augmentation with very low-dose Abilify (aripiprazole) or seroquel. Augmentation with Buspar could also be helpful as could bemzodiazepines. Have tried pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) wellbutrin, paxil, celexa, effexor, lexapro, etc. With lithium, haliperidol &abilify. A couple improve mood. Still anxious! Thoughts?

Many meds: You've tried many meds already, although there are some you haven't mentioned that often help anxiety: buspirone, beta-blockers, other mood stabilizers besides lithium, etc. But after a person has tried so many medications and still has symptoms, i'd suggest non-medication approaches: psychotherapy, mindfulness, relaxation training, exercise/yoga, etc. ...Read more

I tried celexa, effexor, cymbalta, pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) lexapro, zoloft, wellbutrin, which barely helped. What else could I try? How do u feel about paxil?

Agree w/Dr. Buggie: I agree with dr. Buggie about the need for psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment. Wellbutrin does not help with anxiety. Paxil (paroxetine) is a reasonable choice, but whether it's right for you I cannot say. You're also on Adderall xr, which can exacerbate anxiety in some. Psychotherapy is an important part of treatment for anxiety also -- but you didn't mention pursuing that. ...Read more

A: A combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and anti depressants is an effective treatment strategy. There are other anti depressants with a different mechanism of action that could be tried- eg: tricyclic anti depressants (nortriptyline), mirtazapine, MAO inhibitors. The treatment could also be augmented with medications in the class of Abilify (aripiprazole), seroquel etc. If nothing else works, electroconvulsive therapy is a safe and effective treatment option. Please talk to your psychiatrist and hope you get well soon. ...Read more

To take charge of ocd, the gold standard is exposure & response prevention. A clinical psychologist specializing in anxiety can be huge help. Learn about at anxierybc. Org. Also see ocfoundation. What is the best time of d day to take paxil (paroxetine)? Is it a really good medicine for my anxiety? Thnksss I hope Paxil (paroxetine) helps me

Paxil (paroxetine): Paxil (paroxetine) is generally best taken in the morning. At first these class of drugs (ssris) may cause you to become drowsy, but that is usually transient. The opposite may occur in some people where they develop insomnia later in therapy if taken too late in the day, hence the reason to take it in the am. ...Read more
