Many meds: You've tried many meds already, although there are some you haven't mentioned that often help anxiety: buspirone, beta-blockers, other mood stabilizers besides lithium, etc. But after a person has tried so many medications and still has symptoms, i'd suggest non-medication approaches: psychotherapy, mindfulness, relaxation training, exercise/yoga, etc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Wellbutrin (bupropion) is stimulating, and at best doesn't affect anxiety, but can exacerbate anxiety. For premenstrual dysporic disorder (pdd), ssris, like zoloft, celexa, and Prozac that work through serotonin can alleviate symptoms, but wellbutrin (bupropion) and works through Dopamine and doesn't help with pdd. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Neither and both: The best med is the one that works for you. Sometimes you do best with a combo of both. I find that Lexapro (escitalopram) helps obsessing and panic better but can have gi side effects and insomnia. Remeron is very sedating and helps calm the stomach, and promotes sleep but can cause weight gain. It might replace some diazepam. I often combine the two. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) and Diazepam: Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) can cause anger issues by triggering mania or hypomania. Diazepam can cause anger issues by its disinhibiting properties in the frontal lobes. Buspar does not have this effect and neither does seroquel. Seroquel if anything has an anti-anger effect. Buspirone lessens anger by knocking out anxious irritability. Best wishes and have a happy new year. ...Read more
Social Anxiety: Reactions to the various ssris is very individual. Some of them are marketed as better for certain specific anxiety or depressive disorders, but in fact the only way to know which med or meds is going to work for you is to try them under the care of a skilled psychiatrist and make adjustments, additions, or stop them if they are not working or causing side effects. The most important thing is to find a therapist skilled at treating your particular disorder. Specialists in anxiety disorders most often use cognitive and behavioral techniques to help you feel and function better. ...Read more

More choices: You and your doctor still have more possible choices, although you've tried several. If you've not yet been working with a psychiatrist, please do. Psychiatric Eval ?: While anxiety can be helped by medication, there are often psychological issues involved. Many times a combination of medication and psychotherapy can be very useful. It is also often best to get started on such treatment when you are young; A psychiatrist should be able to do a full evaluation and work out a treatment plan with you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Would be gradual: I would be more gradual about tapering the effexor, (venlafaxine) since its mechanism is not only with serotonin but also norepinephrine. This means starting Paxil at a lower dose while gradually decreasing Effexor (venlafaxine) -- eventually moving to Paxil alone. Please work with your psychiatrist on this. ...Read more

Paxil (paroxetine) withdrawal: Paxil (paroxetine) withdrawal maybe difficult. You may want to take a longer time. I generally withdraw Paxil (paroxetine) 5 mg a month. Cross titrating slowly venlafaxine will help. If you have problems with side effects, then take more time. Serotonin syndrome is a dangerous adverse event, if you take two serotonin drugs. I've heard reports of all sorts, so you can't expect to be just like anyone else. Expectancy matters (alot!) so, expect the best. SSRI's and climax: In many people, ssri antidepressants have the side effect of delayed orgasm. In some this would not be desirable.
