Doctor insights on:
Paxil And Wellbutrin
Serotonin vs dopamin: Paxil, a serotonin med, will have more GI side effects- nausea, cramping, Bowel changes, since it has a short half life, if not taken regularly some ppl report 'withdrawals' that feel like electric impulses on the nerves. Wellbutrin, a dopamine med, will have more central/autonomic nervous system SE like headaches, bp changes, insomnia, moodiness. ...Read more
Unable to take anti-dep due to extreme sleepiness or fatigue (zoloft, paxil, (paroxetine) wellbutrin, etc.). Is this a common occurence or am I an exception?
Depression: Some people do not do well on anti-depressants. Consult with a clinical psychologist as you may do much better if your are in psychotherapy than simply taking meds. Also my workbook on depression is featured on the soundmindz. Org web site along with updated articles on depression treatment. Best wishes. ...Read more
In essential thrombocytosis does the serotonin given off have an effect on depression? Also is it safe to take paxil, (paroxetine) wellbutrin, Ambien with et?
ET and depression: Et is not a contraindication to take anti depression medication. If your doctor thinks that you should be on ssri, from et-perspective, you should be fine it is not clear to me, however your statement regarding the serotonin and et. There is no relationship between et and serotonin. If your serum serotonin is elevated, your md should do a bit w/u to find out the cause of the elevation. ...Read more

Hello, is it true that the effect of Paxil (paroxetine) and wellbutrin both become less or insignificant by the time (work to limit time then not working in body).
It can happen with: Any antidepressant. We do not know why this happens. We also unfortunately do not have any comparative data on the antidepressants in this regard. Clinically I would say that I have seen Prozac last the longest without requiring change (unpublished data from my practice). We have two year data on Paxil (paroxetine) in this regard. When it happens, we augment or switch. Godt nytt år! ...Read more
If you have broken sleep can you feel chronic dizzy/balance? Does Paxil (paroxetine) or wellbutrin help insomnia anxiety depression?
Anxiety/ depression: Paxil (paroxetine) (SSRI) may help with anxiety/ depression and as a result may also improve insomnia. Wellbutrin is not used for insomnia. It is used to treat atypical depression. Although it is not FDA approved for anxiety - recently it is is coming to light that it may help to reduce some anxious sxs. ...Read more

Psychiatrist put me on [paxil cr 12.5, wellbutrin (bupropion) 150, clomipramine 50mg, laxoberon] all od. My anxiety attacks gettin worse. Any advise to stop panic plz?
Unusual combination: Wellbutrin is unlikely to help anxiety at all. Either Paxil (paroxetine) (p) or clomipramine (c) would be sufficient for anxiety disorder, but usually at significantly higher doses. If both are continued as doses are raised, there is increased risk of serotonin syndrome and and of side-effects from just c, as p tends to raise levels of c. Laxoberon for constipation. Talk to your doc about this. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Have tried pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) wellbutrin, paxil, celexa, effexor, lexapro, etc. With lithium, haliperidol &abilify. A couple improve mood. Still anxious! Thoughts?
Many meds: You've tried many meds already, although there are some you haven't mentioned that often help anxiety: buspirone, beta-blockers, other mood stabilizers besides lithium, etc. But after a person has tried so many medications and still has symptoms, i'd suggest non-medication approaches: psychotherapy, mindfulness, relaxation training, exercise/yoga, etc. ...Read more
Is there a drug that you can add to pamelor besides effexor, (venlafaxine) wellbutrin, paxil, that could help mdd, social phobia n pmdd that doesn't have bad withdrawal?
My doc gave me Buspar (buspirone) since 2 months now and it's not working. Also proved antidepressants like zoloft, efexor, cymbalta, prozac, wellbutrin, paxil?
10mg paxil (paroxetine). Pdoc wants me to switch to wellbutrin by starting at 75mg and taking 10mg Paxil (paroxetine) for 5 days then stop paxil (paroxetine). Need for Paxil (paroxetine) ween?
See a psychiatrist: I can only guess your medication is for depression. First of all I am clueless as to why your dose of Remeron is so low and every other night. Secondly I don't understand why you were coming off of just 10 mg of Paxil (paroxetine) which is rarely therapeutic. Thirdly, 75 mg of wellbutrin is too low as a starting dose. Find yourself a psychiatrist who will dose your meds properly with full remission from the depression as a goal. This will generally take 300 mg a day of wellbutrin. You can taper the Paxil (paroxetine) to 5 mg down from 10 and then stop it if you wish. That may help make any potential withdrawal more tolerable. Best wishes. ...Read more
I have to cold turkey wellbutrin and Paxil (paroxetine) because I can't afford them anymore, is this going to hurt me? I'm already having zaps...
Won't damage you...: But if you are already having "zaps" or discontinuation symptoms, don't cold turkey" it. Generic Paxil (paroxetine) is on the 4 $ list of meds at target ; walmart. So you can get 30 tabs of either the 10 or the 20 mg dose for 4 bucks, or a 90 day supply for just $10. There are also other ways to get low cost meds if you do an internet search. Stopping wellbutrin (bupropion) is not usually a problem, Paxil is. ...Read more

Need physician.: Paxil (paroxetine) has to be taper down gradually first. And u have to discuss with your psychiatrist about side effect and benefit of wellbutrin first. It's not what is equivalent dose but most important is how much you needs it and why you needs it. It is not wise to change without physician guidance. ...Read more

Haw adding wellbutrin to paxil (paroxetine) well help sexual side effect what well do well help The body or The brain explain for me pleas?
Helps the biology: Sexual problems often occur with conditions for which paroxetene (Paxil) is prescribed. But they are not uncommon as side effects. In that case, they are a result of the bological action on the brain of paroxetene. Buproprion (Wellbutrin) has biologic effects on the brain which can reverse those particular effects of paroxetene. ...Read more
I increased my wellbutrin from 75 to 150mg and lowered my Paxil (paroxetine) from 20 to 15mg. I don't feel like my sleep is restful anymore and I'm exhausted?
Dose timing: I agree with dr. Maes about making medication changes along with your physician, rather than all alone. What time are you taking your wellbutrin (bupropion)? It can be activating, and could disrupt your sleep if taken at bedtime. Please discuss any changes you want to make with your doctor -- s/he's there to be on your healing team with you. ...Read more
Been on Paxil (paroxetine), mirtazipine, and zyprexa for yrs but. Recently feeling very depressed. Dr added wellbutrin, will this be helpful?
Wellbutrin (bupropion) for mood: I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling more with depression. It's great that you've already let your doc know that your condition has changed. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is an antidepressant that works primarily on a neurotransmitter that isn't the main target of your other meds -- so it is a logical choice and I'm hopeful it helps! Most importantly, keep working with your doc until you do improve :) ...Read more

Hello, my doctor would like to add another medication to Paxil which I use for (gad), he suggested Buspar (buspirone) or wellbutrin, which combo is better?
For GAD, BuSpar (buspirone): Buspar (buspirone) works on its own in gad. If you do not have depression, then you may be able to come off the Paxil and just use the Buspar (buspirone) for gad. I always dose this conservatively: Buspar (buspirone) 5mg twice a day for one week, the 10mg twice a day for one week then 15 mg twice a day after that. I hope you feel better soon. I tried celexa, effexor, cymbalta, pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) lexapro, zoloft, wellbutrin, which barely helped. What else could I try? How do u feel about paxil?
Agree w/Dr. Buggie: I agree with dr. Buggie about the need for psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment. Wellbutrin does not help with anxiety. Paxil (paroxetine) is a reasonable choice, but whether it's right for you I cannot say. You're also on Adderall xr, which can exacerbate anxiety in some. Psychotherapy is an important part of treatment for anxiety also -- but you didn't mention pursuing that. ...Read more
Right now on Prozac 40mg for GAD instead of Paxil 20mg, For encounter the sexual dysfunction of Prozac must be added Wellbutrin or Buspar (buspirone) to Prozac?
Witch is work better Ta add to paxil for low energy low sex drive wellbutrin or buspar (buspirone)? I tried many antidepressants but not work!!
Wellbutrin (bupropion): Of the SSRIs, paxil may be the most likely to affect energy and sex drive. Changing to a different SSRI may be the first option. Both wellbutrin and buspar (buspirone) may help with the sexual side effects of an SSRI, but between the two, wellbutrin has more evidence and may also be more activating. Would caution if anxiety is high, regular alcohol use, or any concerns for seizures. ...Read more
On bupropion XL 150mg couple months gained weight, was on Paxil50mg too but recently switched from Paxil to 60mgProzac, possibly gained from bupropion?
Bupropion wt gain?: Bupropion is an antidepressant not likely to cause weight gain vs. SSRI's (eg. Prozac and Paxil). That said, weight gain is reported as an uncommon side effect of bupropion. If weight gain continues on Prozac, would consider Effexor. Discuss with prescribing doctor. Meantime, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly and keep track of your weight. I hope this helps. Best wishes. ...Read more
