Yes you can.: Solpadeine is tylenol with caffeine. Targin is a trade name for oxycodone with naloxone (the former is an opiate analgesic, the latter is a receptor blocker to prevent addiction or overdose). Solpadeine will augment the 5mg targin and make it work better without any severe side effects in the short term, with the possible exception of caffeine induced insomnia. ...Read more

What does "adequate hydration" have to do with preventing vomiting? [not dehydrat from, paul cohen? ]
Nothing: When vomiting you must provide adequate hydration; otherwise you will become dehydrated. If you are not able to keep fluids down and replace the losses you would need to be in the hospital getting IV fluids until the problem is passed and you can again take your fluids orally. To prevent vomiting you may need assistance with medications such as phenergan (promethazine). ...Read more
One dr one your board (Paul grin) says the mortality rate for cleft palate surgery is 1 in 300 while another says 1 in 100, 000. Huge discrepancy. Why?
Studies: I cannot speak for any doctor nor the actual figures reported. First, I do not believe there is any consensus on the figures as such studies of mortality rate for this procedure are scarce and will vary based upon who does the study, the size of the sampling, the geographic sampling, the year of the study, how the information was collected, etc. Concentrate on the need and benefit of the surgery. ...Read more

Hey I'm Paul and 16 yrs. I was playing soccer and while running I hurt my toe it isn't swollen or red put hurts when I try to walk on it?
Let it recover...: You need to stay off of it, apply ice to the area in question rest and elevate it. If the problem does not improve in a day, you should have it evaluated. If the toe improves, then you can hold off for another day or two. As long as the toe is improving with time, it is probably not seriously injured. To remove all doubt have your family doctor or a Healthtap specialist evaluate it. ...Read more
I'm postop 5 weeks from Kidner procedure & got an aircast & was told to stay applying weight with a crutch. I have such pain I can't even ice it.?
Try This.: If ice makes the pain worse or does not improve it then stop it. Try applying some moist heat. A moist dish towel folded and put into the micro wave will do just fine. Keep it slightly elevated. You might try advil (ibuprofen) or another NSAID. If no improvement you need to notify your surgeon. ...Read more

Transverse myleitis. Fluid in r.Knee monday night. Early clotty period tues. Shooting pain kower r.Leg now?
Radiculopathy: Shooting pain like you're describing often comes from injury to peripheral nerves or nerve roots. So, I realize you have transverse myelitis, which could cause pain, but the history you provide actually fits best with a lumbar nerve root being pinched as it exits the spinal canal. Consider getting MRI or x-ray of your lumbosacral spine, and of course have your neurologist examine you. Good luck! ...Read more

Would kroger brand xtra strength pain relief pm be a good over-the-counter drug to take for my knee replacement instead of vicoden?
Possibly: Kroger brand xtra strength pain relief is acetaminophen, which is essentially tylenol. It may be weaker for pain than vicodin, but you will likely have less side effects than the vicodin if you are sensitive to narcotics. If the pain is not severe, I would go with the tylenol. Motrin and Ibuprofen are good over the counter options, but I would not take it constantly for a long time. ...Read more
Would kroger brand xtra strength pain relief pm be a good over-the-counter drug to take for my knee replacement instead of vicodin?
Tylenol (acetaminophen): Arthritis strength tylenol (acetaminophen) is helpful. Vicodin (hydrocodone) is a narcotic and the chronic use of narcotics for pain control can cause serious side effects, including narcotic dependence, narcotic tolerance, and hyperalgesia (hyspersensitivity to pain). This class of drugs should not be used to treat arthritis pain unless no other options are effective. ...Read more
Burned back of hand with grease 3days ago. No blistering. Applied cold water kosher salt and aloe. Concerned. Pain in veins when hand is below waist.
Have a plastic surgeon evaluate your hand. Lack of blisters may be because the burn is really minor or very serious and deep.
Pain is usually present when the hand is lower than the hears, so keeping it high is helpful.
Good luck. ...Read more
