Pancreatic cancer symptoms MRI showed chronic pancreatitis, heart disease and fat liver, what is the chance that they might find a cancer there too?

Pancreatic cancer symptoms MRI showed chronic pancreatitis, heart disease and fat liver, what is the chance that they might find a cancer there too?

Plan to live: Chronic pancreatitis only has a slight tendency to produce cancer especially if it's hereditary, and if it was not seen on imaging, it's very unlikely to be there and you should plan to live. If you are not a longtime heavy drinker, then we need to seek the cause of your liver, heart and pancreatic disease. It may be that a healthier future awaits you with aerobic fitness as the key. Best wishes.

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

If tumor blocks bile duct or panc duct, causes abdominal pain, pancreatitis, jaundice. If it's in tail, will cause no symtptoms till very large or spread to other areas. Most common: weight loss, mental status change such as new onset depression.

What causes pancreatic cancer? What are the symptoms and how is it treated?

What causes pancreatic cancer? What are the symptoms and how is it treated?

Probably viral: Pancreatic Ca is a lethal disease of probable viral origin. The tumor begins 15-20 yrs before a clinical lesion can be defined. It appears in the head where painless jaundice is seen, in the body with symptoms of invasion of celiac plexus and tail with pseudo varices of vasa brevia. Even with surgery for 10% of patients the survival here is 10%. Chemo with gemzar (gemcitabine) and Abraxane used.

What is the signs of pancreatic cancer if there are no symptoms?

Varies: Symptoms refer to the complaints of the patient that may suggest pancreatic cancer (ie. Nausea/vomiting). Signs refer to the phyical findings on the patient that would suggest this cancer. Signs include jaundice, abdominal swelling, abdominal fluid collection (ascities), weight loss, and new onset glucose intolerance. The signs may vary depending on location of the cancer (head vs tail of panceas).

Does pancreatic cancer usually cause many symptoms?

Does pancreatic cancer usually cause many symptoms?

Yup...: Commonly yellow skin; +/- belly pain; weight loss; new onset diabetes and depression. Pancreas tail makes hormones: insulin, gastrin, glucagon - these cause symptoms. Head/body make digestive juice, and engulf the duct draining the liver into the gut. This is a very nasty cancer.

My pancreatic cancer: causes, & symptoms, as well as cure?

My pancreatic cancer: causes, & symptoms, as well as cure?

Unsure of question!: Do YOU have pancreas cancer? That is very rare in someone in their 30s. No one knows what causes pancreas cancer. Symptoms are usually upper mid-abdominal pain near the breast bone, often after eating going into the back, weight loss, loss of appetite, change in taste/smell sensation, blood clot in leg, depression. Early pancreas cancer's best chance for cure is surgery.

I'm wondering why are there no obvious symptoms with pancreatic cancer?

I'm wondering why are there no obvious symptoms with pancreatic cancer?

Location of organ: The reason there are no obvious symptoms with pancreatic cancer is that it's location is mostly behind the abdominal cavity. A cancer can grow and grow without disrupting any bodily function for quite a while. Thus the cancer presents later when there is a "mass effect."

What are the chances of pancreatic cancer reoccuring after eight years? What would be the most likely earliest symptoms?

What are the chances of pancreatic cancer reoccuring after eight years? What would be the most likely earliest symptoms?

Maybe something else: The majority of pancreatic cancers recur within the first 2-4 years, but some recur as long as 10-15 years out. Main symptoms may be unexplained weight loss, jaundice, abdominal or back pain. There can be other causes for many of these things, so go back to your oncologist for a check up.

If I had idiopathic PE a year ago and it was caused by pancreatic cancer would I have symptoms of PC yet? Just scared I have PC.

Not pancreas cancer: While deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is common as a complication of pancreatic cancer, it is VERY rare for that to be the first sign of the disease. You are not at above-average risk of pancreatic cancer.

Can you please list specific symptoms of liver or pancreatic cancer?

Unfortunately: There are no specific symptoms, mostly non-specific symptoms. Abdominal discomfort, malaise, weight loss, GI symptoms are typical presentations, but really very non-specific. Sometimes, even doctors can't tell without special imaging tests.

I'm just wondering, if you catch pancreatic cancer in a early stage that shows no symptoms could it be fixed?

Yes: Size and nodal status are the best indicators of how early/late a pancreatic tumor has been detected. The best prognosis is with patients that have tumors < 2cm, and lymph nodes negative. Even better prognosis for patients with only small foci of disease within cystic lesions of the pancreas. In these, 5-year survival may be as high as 50% depending on type. Only surgery offers a chance for cure.

A listed symptom of pancreatic cancer is uneven, lumpy texture of the fatty tissue under the skin. What does this mean? My fattier areas feel lumpy!

Ignore this stuff: Amanda, being health conscious is great but obsessing over cancers that are vanishingly rare at your age does no good to anyone. Acinar cell carcinoma, a rare variant, produces lipases that cause spectacular fat necrosis beneath the skin and the nodules feel like rocks. Healthy fat is divided by septa, easier to feel on some folks than others. And this means nothing. Be tough minded. Best wishes.

From initial onset of symptoms, how fast does pancreatic cancer tend to spread and kill in a patient when diagnosed (i know if varies, but generally)?

From initial onset of symptoms, how fast does pancreatic cancer tend to spread and kill in a patient when diagnosed (i know if varies, but generally)?

See below: Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths. Pancreatic cancer has a poor prognosis: for all stages combined, the 1- and 5-year relative survival rates are 25% and 6%, respectively. For local disease the 5-year survival is approximately 20% while the median survival for locally advanced and for metastatic disease, is 10 and 6 months.

How likely is getting pancreatic cancer at 22? Also would symptoms like left side and mid left back pain happen suddenly?

How likely is getting pancreatic cancer at 22? Also would symptoms like left side and mid left back pain happen suddenly?

Very rare: Pancreatic cancer in a 22 year old is very rare. Sudden pain in the left side/back is more likely to be due to injury or overuse. I would also consider a urinary tract infection or kidney stone, which both way more likely than cancer.
