My 2 year old daughter has swallowed a lot of gum over the past 2 weeks could that be what cause her stomach to hurt and pasty stool?

Possible, but...: ...I don't think it was a great idea to give gum to a 2 year old in the first place: 2 year olds can breathe it in easily, and close off their breathing completely or partially. ...Read more

Embarrassing question but what could cause green maybe green blue areas in my normal colored stool. No diet change. 3 days in a row.

Embarrassing question but what could cause green maybe green blue areas in my normal colored stool. No diet change. 3 days in a row.

See answer: The vast major of green and blue discolorations of one's stool are related to diet and not disease. Green (blue+yellow =green)poop can be seen with excess green leafy vegetables (chlorophyll), excess iron, artificial food dyes (ice cream, cake frosting, liquorice candy, etc). Less often by excess bile. Blue poop most often also related to food dyes (e.g. Blue curaçao, grape soda). Re-evaluate diet. ...Read more

Hard, formed stool mixed with very soft stool coming out at the same time in output. What is going on/what could be the cause?

Hard, formed stool mixed with very soft stool coming out at the same time in output. What is going on/what could be the cause?

Encopresis: Encopresis results in stool backup behind the very hard and obstructing stool. Sometimes liquid or soft stool will "leak around the hard stool obstruction" giving the stool output that you describe. Treatment is disimpaction with enemas followed by stool softeners to prevent new imaction from occurring. ...Read more

Undigested food in stool, what could be the causes?

Undigested food in stool, what could be the causes?

May be normal: Finding undigested parts of vegetables, corn, etc can be normal. "housecleaning" of gut will empty things out of the stomach, and further downstream, after several hours, to prevent stagnation of contents and overgrowth of bacteria. If associated with cramps, weight loss, fatty stools, and voracious appetite could be signs of a significant digestive issue. ...Read more

From time to time, my stools appear to gritty and sand like in color. Some days I have bms all day. What would cause this?

From time to time, my stools appear to gritty and sand like in color. Some days I have bms all day. What would cause this?

Grit and sand.: Certainly would go through the digestive tract undigested. Furthermore, cellulose is not digested and the hulls of small grains (brown rice, bulghur, quinoa, many others) would go through and be small fibrous flakes/particles. Bowel activity varies day to day, but if high fiber (see prev sentence) then increased motility results. ...Read more
