Passing Clots After Mirena Fitting
Ive been bleeding heavily and passing large clots since I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) out 10 days ago. I have been taking primulot n for 6 days which hasn't helped?
Bleeding common: Its common to have a lot of bleeding after a Mirena (levonorgestrel) is removed. Its something I always tell women to expect. It doesn't surprise me that Primulot hasn't helped. The active ingredient in Mirena (levonorgestrel) is a type of Progesterone. When it is removed, your Progesterone levels drop. This is a signal for your uterus to bleed. It usually goes away on its own. Best wishes! ...Read more

I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD removed after 5 yrs wed. On fri i start bleeding heavy and passing huge clots. Is this normal? I had my period a week ago.
Most likely: While the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is in it causes the periods to be much lighter than what is normal for you. Once the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is removed then the periods will go back to whatever is your normal. Also in your late 40's it is common to have heavy and irregular periods as you get closer to menopause. Many women will use Mirena (levonorgestrel) at that age just to get the periods to be lighter. ...Read more

Had mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD for a year, cycle been on 10 days lots of clots. This is abnormal for me what's wrong with me?
Bleeding with IUD: It's unusual to bleed as much as you are with an iud. I would consider getting checked out to make sure the iud is still in place and that there isn't anything else going on with your uterus that is causing the bleeding like a polyp or a fibroid, or even an infection. ...Read more

I'm 43 had a mirena (levonorgestrel) coil fitted 4 months ago had cramps and clots and bleeding frequent , what could be wrong please?
Bleeding on Mirena (levonorgestrel) is highly variable.: Most bleed and spot for the first few weeks and then periods dramatically lighten with 50% not having a period by 1 year. There is wide variations in the bleeding pattern typical of Progesterone only methods. Irregular bleeding is expected and does not mean the iud does not work. If you are concerned please schedule an iud check with your obgyn. ...Read more
I've been bleeding (with clotting) continuously for over 60 days after Mirena (levonorgestrel) was put in place. Should I be concerned about becoming anemic?
Im on the mirena (levonorgestrel) had it for yr, never any pain I don't know if he hit it. Recently had cramps shortly after seen a reddish, clot with a dark spot help?
See doctor: Iuds can sometimes become infected and cause these symptoms, or it could just be coincidence but i find a higher rate of infection when women have one that has been assymptomatic and suddenly changes. Also there is no form of contraception that is 100% effective so if you are worried about pregnancy, take a test. ...Read more

Bleeding w Mirena (levonorgestrel) : Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD helps to decrease menstrual bleeding. However, the answer depends somewhat to how long you've had it, and whether it has moved or if you are pregnant. Would recommend a visit to your Dr to see what's going on. I would recommend that you don't have sex until then. ...Read more

My mirena (levonorgestrel) coil fell out and have had severe clotting during and since 4 days now clots are large ball advise please should is see the doctor urgently.
Mirena (levonorgestrel): Why did your Mirena (levonorgestrel) fall out? Clotting is not abnormal with bleeding. If the bleeding is, however, profuse and painful, you will need to see doc. Try to take Ibuprofen or naproxen. This should help the pain and reduce the severity of bleeding, hopefully. ...Read more
I recently got the mirena, (levonorgestrel) is it normal to have severe cramps and spotting with blood clots?
No: Lots of spotting daily or almost daily for several months is normal but severe cramps is not normal. Bleeding should not be heavy either. Blood clots by themselves don't say much since they can occur with either light or heavy blood flow. It sounds like you should call the doctor who inserted the iud for a follow-up appointment. You should be seen within the day. ...Read more
I had mirena (levonorgestrel) put in yesterday I have a charlie horse shooting down my leg i'm scared it could be something serious like a blood clot could it be?
Doubtful: Mirena (levonorgestrel) insertion really shouldn't cause anything like that. It is more likely that being in the lithotomy position (feet in stirrups, legs up, etc) caused the muscles to spasm. Mirena (levonorgestrel) does have hormones in it, and all forms of hormones have a risk of blood clots....But that would be rare and coincidental. ...Read more
I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) ius removed in january, and am having heavy bleeding, clotting, cramping. Is there anything i can do to help myself heal? W/o meds.
See below: Having an intrauterine device removed can cause "scraping" on the uterine lining that can take a few weeks to heal. If yours was removed in january and you're bleeding heavily, it most likely has nothing to do with the iud removal. You should see your physician for an evaluation. ...Read more
Waitlisted for ab hyst since aug for lrg fib & now weeks of bleeding & clots & back pain. 2nd mirena, (levonorgestrel) ponstan & cyklokapron but so weak. Degenerating?
Uterine Fibroid: A large uterine fibroid can interfere with the mirena (levonorgestrel). The dose of cyclopontan needs to be very carefully regulated to avoid bleeding. It has also been associated with serious complications, such as retinal degeneration. The NSAID should help alleviate some of the pain symptoms. I would follow up immediately with your gynecologist and discuss these concerns, and possibly seek a second opinion. ...Read more
Should i go to the er? Had my mirena put in after i had my daughter almost 2 years ago. Since I have had it my periods have stopped. Tonight shortly before dinner i went to the bathroom and passed a clot as long as a pen, it was white with blood on the en
Since you posted your question a week ago, you have probably dealt with this problem by now.
My main concern here is that you've either lost your mirena, (levonorgestrel) or part of it (hence the "white clot"), or the iud has migrated into or through the wall of your uterus. Given the severity of your pain, it would have been reasonable to go to an urgent care center or er. An evaluation would have quickly determined if the string on your iud was still present, and further treatment could have been initiated, if necessary.
I hope this issue has been addressed and you're feeling better! ...Read more

Watch: If you start to bleed heavily and it doesn't stop then go to the ER. Too much is typically considered soaking through more than a maxi pad an hour for 2 hours, or if associated with dizziness, shortness of breath, other symptoms. Heavy bleeding can also be 2nd removal of the IUD with disruption of the lining. It can also occur with infection. See a doctor to evaluate further ...Read more

IUD problem: Heavy bleeding and pain after placement of an iud means there is problem. You could have an infection in the uterus or the iud may not be situated correctly in the uterus. It is also possible you are pregnant or there is tissue left from the first delivery. You need to be seen by your doctor as soon as possible and be checked out. You also might have a bladder infection. ...Read more

I have the mirena (levonorgestrel). I still have irregular periods. Some with huge blood clots, other times just spotting. Is my body rejecting the mirena (levonorgestrel)/?
Unlikely...: When did you get the Mirena (levonorgestrel) placed? It is very common to have irregular bleeding (light or heavy) for 3-6 months after placement. Almost 70% of women will have very light periods or no bleeding at all 12 months after placement. If you had Mirena (levonorgestrel) placed >6 months ago and are still miserable, definitely discuss with your doctor! good luck! ...Read more
