Amebiasis treatment: does the order if treatment matter? Dr cahill specifically ordered me to take paromomycin first. Followed by tinidazole.

Amoebiasis: Paromomycin will elimated the entamoeba histolytica from the GI tract so that it doesn't get back into the circulation after your extraintestinal disease has been treated with tinidazole, since unless given in very large doses the tinidazole will not affect the colonic amoebae. On 5th of 10 days of paromomycin for invasive amebiasis, and i'm having moderate upper GI pain(middle below my breasts) should I be worried? It hurts!

Paromomycin: This antibiotic is poorly absorbed from the GI tract and 100% is recoverable in stool. It is only meant to treat intestinal amoebiasis and if you have extra-intestinal disease you need very different therapy. You should not only be worried, but go immediately to a doctor (infectious diseases expert would be good) who understands this disease and get evaluated and treated appropriately. Go now. ...Read more

My doctor told me to take 325mg ferrous sulfate 2x day for anemia. I bought carbonyl iron.Should I adjust my dosage if at all?

Why anemia?: Ibuprofen may cause gastritis. Why are you anemic? Menstrual blood loss needs to replace iron in blood lost during menses. Blood in stool? Not familiar with carbonyl iron--what is the brand? Iron should not be taken with milk or milk products within hour of milk meal, as this decreases iron absorption. My favorite iron brand is Vitron C--causes less stomach symptoms. ...Read more

Pregnant taking ferrous sulfate 325 mg twice daily is 6 hrs long enough to wait before taking another dose? How close is to close for doses?

Iron supplements: Taking iron more frequently won't cause any problem other than complication. The body will only absorb a certain amount and the remainder will pass through your system. The most common complaint with excess iron is constipation. Therefore, you can take it at 6 hour intervals if you don't have symptoms now but you may have symptoms as your body reaches its capacity to absorb the iron. ...Read more
