What could cause a solitary slightly enlarged paratracheal lymph node to remain enlarged 11mm for 2 years? Malignancy?

Malignancy: Highly unlikely with 2 years of stability. 11mm is only marginally enlarged, if it otherwise looks normal, probably just an outlier under the normal distribution curve. ...Read more

Lay and terms please - CT report said partially calcified left paratracheal and left perihilar lymph nodes. What does this mean?

Lay and terms please - CT report said partially calcified left paratracheal and left perihilar lymph nodes. What does this mean?

Difficult: To answer without more information, such as the size of the lymph nodes and the type of calcification, but usually this is a sign of a prior inflammatory/infectious process that has resolved. However, there are other potential causes, including (uncommonly) metastatic disease, so you need to talk to your doc about what the significance, if any, is in your case. ...Read more

Multiple mildly enlarged lymph nodes in pre-paratracheal, subcranial & right hilar. Larget right paratracheal measures 26x18mm. No necrosis or calcifi?

Biopsy may be needed: Why was a CT done in the first place? If it was because you were feeling sick, then your doctor will probably want to figure out why you have these enlarged lymph nodes. That may take a biopsy. Generally speaking, enlarged lymph nodes are due to infection or cancer. (There are other rare causes.) ...Read more

You need follow up: Enlarged nodes may be nothing, but could be serious. This requires you to see a physician. The person who ordered the study might be appropriate. At age 40 you should have a primary care doc. See him/her and if he refers to a specialist, follow up with that person. ...Read more

Can you pop a lymph node?

Can you pop a lymph node?

Not poppable: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. ...Read more

Have a lymph node but why doesn't it hurt? What could this mean?

Get a medical check: Enlarged lymph nodes that hurt are usually due to infection or inflammation. But when the nodes are enlarged yet painless, they need to be checked by your doctor as it can be a sign of cancer if the nodes are clearly enlarged (over 2 centimeter). Further tests and or a biopsy may be required to determine the cause of their enlargment. ...Read more
