parathyroid glands are found in association with the thyroid gland . There are 4 glands situated on top of and below the thyroid gland. The glands function to produce the hormone parathormone which controls Ca++ metabolism. Occassionally one of the glands converts to a glandular adenoma which is more functional than the gland and more rarely the adenoma converts to malignancy which causes mets
