Genetics, age, food: Many factors play a role in muscle development. If you are before puberty or in your upper middle age (> 55), then muscle growth is challenging. Most strengthening exercises done with 2-3 sets and 10-15 reps/set will result in muscle growth and strength gains. Be seen: The concern at 5.5 months out is that you should be well healed from your surgery, and so you should not be having much pain at this point. A ct scan can be done to determine if you repair was successful and is healed or if it was not successful which could explain your pain. Let your surgeon know you are still hurting. ...Read more

It depends: Each person is different in their need for and ability to change with exercise. It depends on how hard you work those muscles once a week, or if you work all your muscles moderately 3 times a week.
