Paranoid schizophrenia is a disorder in which an individual experiences delusions, commonly of persecution by others, real or imagined. This disorder is often accompanied by auditory hallucinations (hearing things that aren't there) as well as other perception disturbances which may affect smell, taste, or arousal.
