Can sunscreen irratitate yound childrens skin? I always have him wear a sun hat but his face seems red and rashy after the sunscreens appilied
Try a different one: It's great that you are trying to protect your son's skin from the sun. Several sunscreens contain material that does not bind to the skin, reducing the risk of irritation. Check the label for active ingredients. The mild ones usually contain only zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as the active ingredients. Make sure you reapply frequently. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Face shield: A clear plastic face shield provides the best protection after a broken nose. You might see college or professional players wearing these. You might need this for 2-4 weeks depending on the severity of the fracture. A larger football helmet face shield or a softball face mask will also work well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is there anything to detoxify our respiratory systems after we burned plastic cutlery container on top of wood stove?
Fresh air: Burning plastic can emit fumes that are noxious to the respiratory system. Some plastics, such as polyethylene (saran wrap, etc.), when burned emit formaldehyde fumes. In most situations, plenty of fresh air is all that is needed. If one has significant symptoms (persistent cough, shortness of breath), then one should seek medical attention with their doctor. ...Read more

I have some new small freckles around my mouth, cheeks, and chin after spending a month close to equator (w sunscreen). Will they fade with winter?
Most Likely: Probably, be sure to use sunscreen every day from now on too. If they don't, IPL does a nice job of lightening sun damage with no down time. It does require regular treatments to maintain results. Some chemical peels can lighten sun damage. Fractionated laser does a really nice job of lightening pigmentary issues, but there is some downtime. Hydroquinone and lightening creams are other options. ...Read more
Worried about tetanus. Small wound from metal bar in outdoor shower on farm between toes. Shots out of date. Cleaned/bandaged wound with gentamicin.
Give me a boost.: The general rule is to have a booster if it has been more than 10 years since last shot. If the wound is deep and contaminated and it has been more than 5 years since your last shot, you will need a booster. Your wound care sounds adequate, but there is no way of telling if it is adequate enough. To remove all doubt, get a booster. ...Read more

Baby w/ helmet rolled out of laundry basket onto the tile floor, landed on her face, has fat lip, bleeding lip stopped she seems ok. Brain injury? Er?
Difficult question: Difficult question due to knot enough facts known. It is always safest to have a baby with concern of a head injury to be assessed at er. That being said, no loss of consciousness, no vomiting, did not hit head, more than likely okay. However, if prior bleed or head injury, this increases chances of further injury. Difficult for us to say from this side of the computer, but safe is better. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Cleaned dark mold in car w/ bleach mix and sponge. Small area (4-6 inch). Caused by coffee.Used gloves but no mask. Should I worry about exposure?
I wouldn't worry:): Using gloves ... good for you! If you did not experience any symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath, I wouldn't worry about the bleach fumes. High concentrations of bleach can cause lung irritation/inflammation which typically heals by itself. If you didn't have symptoms, not a problem. A mask is a good idea, though:) ...Read more
