HPV-18 and ASC-H positive results led to a LEEP procedure. First pap smear 11 months later resulted in negative HPV test, but ASC-H present. Why?

Too many acronyms : Whenever a test is done somebody has to say what is positive or negative in a result about it. These are all summed up in the sensitivity and specificity of the particular test. If I measure your BP and tell you I measured 139/89 and said was fine because high BP was defined as higher than 140/90 you would probably start doubting my judgment. Whenever you get a test result back ask doc what does i ...Read more

You are right: In 2001, hpv dna testing was approved for asc-us triage, the reflex testing of pap tests interpreted as asc-us. In 2003, hpv dna testing received expanded labeling to be used as a co-test with the pap in women over the age of 30. Can a nurse take wrong pap smear? I got negative both from HPV test and pap smear but is there any chance the beginner nurse didn't take it correctly?

Yes and no: There are some safeguards in the procedure. My pap smear was negative for HPV but showed endometrial cells? What does this mean?My dr. Wants to do a biopsy.

My pap smear was negative for HPV but showed endometrial cells? What does this mean?My dr. Wants to do a biopsy.

It's a precaution: Endometrial cells come from your uterus. In women your age, about 12% show normal endometrial cells on their pap smear. Usually they are just normal cells that have "shed" into your pap smear. But about 1 in 10 times they can signal something abnormal is happening in your uterus, possibly cancer. It's recommended that any woman with these cells on a pap smear has further testing, just to be sure. ...Read more

I've been tryin to get pregnant for over a year now with no results. I have kids. Had a pap smear oct 2011 asc/hpv neg. Could i still get pregnant? What could be the problem? Im 40 years old

Fertility doc: If you really want another child, i would visit a fertility specialist. You meet the definition of infertility based on your age (>35 yrs old) and length of trying unprotected intercourse (> 6 months). Given that you have had kids in the past, this shortens the list of what might be going on and how to help you or your partner. Good luck. ...Read more

Pap smear results came back as inflamed ascus- dr says it's inflamed normal cells. Hpv is negative. Had this happen again in 2012. What does it mean?

Probably normal: A SCUS stands for atypical squamous cells of uncertain significance. That means the cells look funny. If the HPV is negative and it remains negative this is just an outlier under the microscope. If the HPV is positive you will need a biopsy. If The atypia persist you also will get a biopsy even if the HPV is negative. The Pap intends: To looks at cervical cells, but can also collect endometrial lining cells. I'd not contradict your doctor, and the pace of re-exam is fine.
