My daughter's pap came back abnormal. They said 2 wait 3 months & will have another pap. That cells correct itself. Should I be worried?

No: Vaginal bacterial infections are common in younger woman and the most common cause for an abnormal pap. If they recommended repeating it in 3 months, they are waiting for the infection to clear so that they can retest. ...Read more

You don’t have HPV: Your pap result indicate that you are negative for HPV meaning that you don’t have it. In this case nothing happens to you since you don’t have HPV. HPV is transmitted sexually. An “inadequate” results means that there were not enough cells to determine if the cells themselves were normal or not. Since HPV testing was normal there is not likely to be cause for alarm ...Read more

No: That doesn't happen. Please comply with your instructions for following up the pap smear. Back in the bad old days, 30000 women died yearly in the usa from cancer of the cervix. Now it is a rare cause of death, thanks almost entirely to pap smears. ...Read more

HPV: You most likely had a high risk strain of hpv that was cleared but caused cervical dysplasia before being cleared. In general, women under 30 should not be tested for hpv because it will likely go away. Over 30, women should be tested because hpv is less likely to go away. ...Read more

Sept 2012 pap came back abnormal. I had colposcopy and all was fine. Had another pap done last week, came back w/ signs of cervical dysplaisa????????

Very common: It is not unusual for a pap smear to return as abnormal on a follow up pap. It does not mean that you have cancer. Your doctor may repeat the pap in 6 months because it is not unusual for the dysplasia to resolve or your doctor may want to do another colposcopy. You and your doctor will decide the treatment that best fits you. The important thing is that you do not skip your pap smears ...Read more

My pap came back ascus and they detect HPV but my pap in 2011 was normal I had only 1 sex partner after my 2011 pap. Should I be worry what should I do my gyno wants me to do a colo. Wat should I do.

Do it!: Go thru with the colposcopy but don't worry. They just want to be certain there are no areas to worry about, and if there are they will fix them! More than likely it will be fine and they will ask you to repeat your pap in 6 months after the colposcopy. You are young &we know that girls can often clear hpv by their immune system if under 30. Till u are clear of hpv use safe sex. Don't pass on. ...Read more

Try not to worry: Slightly abnormal pap smears are very common. Most of them go away over time with no treatment. Colposcopy is a good idea to be sure that it's safe to just follow with a repeat pap smear in 1 year. Most likely it is. Smoking is a big risk factor for continuing trouble so quite if you smoke. ...Read more

My tampon fills up with a clear, thin, watery fluid when I am on my period. Is this normal? My pap came back normal. What is this?

Your primary medical: Decision maker (physician if you will) is always yourself. Most humans ignore health; pay attention after feel bad/scared. Docs trained: normality (=central 96% of common, for small groups measured in past) vs. Advanced disease & paid by medical money accumulators to do rote mechanistic routines; not health. Thus educate yourself, use the net, study anatomy, physiology, ask appropriate questions! ...Read more

45 years old. Had pap and ultrasound and both were normal but pap came back with endometrial cells on uterine lining. I had just finished cycle.

There are endometrial cells which are the uterine lining.
The goal is to detect cervical or uterine cancer and the best hope is for normal cells! ...Read more

5 months ago my pap came back abnormal with high risk HPV now she said my pap smear came back normal does that mean its gone? Or hasn't gotten worse?

Pap Smears: It would appear to me that you are confusing two different results on pap smears.

First, the main reason for a pap smear is to examine the cells to see if any of them have changed to predict a risk of cancer.

Second, the cells are studied for high risk hpv dna to see if there is any risk of future changes that would predict cancer. ...Read more

Had few abnormal pap smear&colposcopy showed minor changes, had few more paps came back abnormal with HPV got to have another colposcopy can you help?

Colposcopy best: Colposcopy is the best way to evaluate abnormal pap smears. Fortunately women in their 20's can fight off hpv infections without specific treatment but it may take 1-2 years to do so. So long as no high grade changes are seen, one can just wait it out. ...Read more

Had a pap smear on day 10 of menstration. Pap came back normal but shows endometrial cells on uterine lining. What does this mean? Going for a biopsy.

Had a pap smear on day 10 of menstration. Pap came back normal but shows endometrial cells on uterine lining. What does this mean? Going for a biopsy.

Likely okay: Typically, unless a woman is having irregular bleeding, endometrial cells on a pap aren't worrisome at all. That's based on a new recommendation for pap smear management. If you have irregular or heavy bleeding, doctor will want to rule out pre-cancer as cause, hence, biopsy of uterine lining. No harm in biopsy. Your doctor knows you best, so be sure to ask him/her why they have concerns for biops. ...Read more

Abnormal pap came back HPV positive/cin1. Sent for colposcopy. Biopsy came back mild. But new pap is moderate-severe. Now have blood tinged discharge?

In right course...: You have been in right course of care and luckily so far you are on safe side. Remember no test including biopsy can bring a 100 % of firm diagnosis as it is supposed to do and every life event including a disease always displays on its pattern of full spectrum; hence it is hard to discern what it may be at the early stage of disease and at the very end, almost anyone can tell what it is. I have high risk HPV (non 16/18) and my Pap came back ASCUS. Should I give up sex to clear HPV/dysplasia? Can I still use condoms with my bf?

I have high risk HPV (non 16/18) and my Pap came back ASCUS. Should I give up sex to clear HPV/dysplasia? Can I still use condoms with my bf?

Repeat PAPs: Follow you doctor's advice on repeat testing by PAP. Giving up sex or using condoms per se will not affect the course of the disease.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex. ...Read more

My PAP came back with "epithelial cell abnormality. LGSIL; mild dysplasia and human papilloma virus effects are present". What does this mean?

HPV, dysplasia: You have HPV and it has caused minor cellular abnormalities in your cervix. L (G)SIL stands for low (grade) squamous intra-epithelial lesion, usually due to a low risk (non cancer-causing) type of HPV. Most likely this is not serious, but follow your doctor's advice on follow-up testing and perhaps treatment. Get vaccinated to prevent more serious HPV infections and get tested for other STDs. ...Read more

2 weeks ago my pap came back abnormal my gyno says no grade but instead of wait she would prefer colo. The sameday I had my pap I found out I have uti. I also like to insert my hand in my vagina. Help?

Lots of things!: A UTI will not affect the pap smear. Inserting your hand is also unlikely to cause an abnormal pap, except that it can cause trauma depending on the size of your hand and how far it goes, or if you insert other things that can injury the cervix which is where a pap is done. An abnormal pap needs to be followed as it can be a sign of early cancer. Usually a repeat pap or colposcopy is correct. ...Read more

Maybe, maybe not: CIN can recur after appropriate treatment, however it is not present in the ASCUS/squamous metaplasia of today's report. It is a good idea to continue follow up pap smears regularly to get early notification if CIN does recur. ...Read more

My pap came back unormal I went back to the dr cause I fell sick light headed felling like I can pass out the dr said im dehydrated since then I been drink water and gatorade and no change the same im still dehydrated my body just not accepting the flu

First,: First, your abnormal pap smear wouldn't have anything to do with your dizziness. Your doctor should talk with you about what comes next to deal with this issue.
Now, your dizziness could be caused by any number of problems. One way to tell if you're really dehydrated is to check the color of your urine. If you're emptying your bladder several times a day and your urine is pale yellow in color (not dark), you're not dehydrated, and some other explanation for your dizziness must be sought.
Anxiety, viral illnesses, anemia, medications or recreational drugs, heart problems, metabolic disorders, and an array of other conditions can cause faintness. If your symptoms don't resolve soon, return to your doctor for reevaluation.
Good luck! ...Read more
