Monitor it: Whether it's worth seeking a subtle myelodysplastic syndrome is for you to decide. I trust the obvious (hypersplenism, lupus, pnh, hiv, B12 / folate (folic acid) / copper deficiency) ideas were ruled out. Trust you're not taking any folk "herbal" (they can be anything) or excess zinc. This might be time to adopt "watchful waiting" rather than seek a diagnosis. Best wishes. ...Read more

What is it called when cancer causes pancytopenia?

What is it called when cancer causes pancytopenia?

Here is some info: Pancytopenia reflects the poor health of the bone marrow (where all blood cells are produced). Cancer often goes into the bones but such invasion is often patchy, so it does not affect blood counts. But a diffuse invasion of the bone marrow can also occur (especially in Blood Cancers as well as in solid tumors, like breast Cancer). One term used for the solid tumor-related invasion is Myelopthisis ...Read more

Is there any tratement available in homeopathy/ayurvedic for pancytopenia?

Yes: Homeopathy & Ayurveda offer treatments for virtually any condition because they attempt to balance the whole person rather than focusing on the diagnosis. How is pancytopenia developed during aplastic anemia?

How is pancytopenia developed during aplastic anemia?

Production stops: The body continuously recycles & replaces different cells in the blood. Red cells last ~100days, platelets several hours, other cells vary. The healthy system acheives a steady state of producing cells as fast as they break down. If an event such as a toxic exposure (chloramphenacol) or tumor invasion shuts down the "factory", no new material will be made & you get low on everything. ...Read more

What do you advise if I'm diagnosed as chronic anemic, pancytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia and lympocytopenia?

Specialist help: This is probably a marrow disease and you need to be evaluated by a competent, no-nonsense hematologist. An anemia always needs a workup and unless the other values are only trivially reduced relative to the reference range, you have serious disease until proved otherwise. Don't delay, and stay proactive. ...Read more

58 yo female. I've been diagnosed with mds and smoldering myeloma. One oncologists says it's rare to have both. Diangosis x 2yrs. Pancytopenia. No tx yet.

Possible: Although not very common, it can happen. At this time, the standard of care for smoldering myeloma is still observational. For mild mds perhaps either just observe or blood transfusion as needed and growth support therapy as indicated. For intermediate-high risk mds- hypomethylating agent like vidaza or other agent like Revlimid (lenalidomide) will be considered depending on the cytogenetics. F/u with your md. ...Read more

Is pancytopenia resulting from chemotherapy is same as aplastic anemia?

Is pancytopenia resulting from chemotherapy is same as aplastic anemia?

No: Aplastic anemia means something is wrong with your bone marrow and it cannot make red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets. It can be caused by toxins, infections, or autoimmune problems. Often the cause is never found. Pancytopenia from chemotherapy means a decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets caused by the toxic effect of chemo. This improves with time. ...Read more
