Carpal tunnel or...: It is possible that you may have carpal tunnel syndrome or early arthritis at the base of the thumb. It's also very possible that muscle fatigue because you normally don't use that muscle much and suddenly you force that muscle into working hard, it can be easily fatigued due to lack of conditioning. Interesting: Writing for 30 minutes should be well tolerated at your age. Are you taking narcotic medications because you have been injured and are just resuming your writing activities? Not sure: Not sure what you mean by mallet exercises. If you are referring in drum mallets, or something similar, then you can develope hand cramping. This can be caused by overuse, nerve compression, or rarely circulation problems. Make sure you warm up properly for 2-5 minutes, then begin your mallet exercises.
